There are lots of people on here who have lost 100lbs+. There are some incredible transformations in the Success Stories section to inspire you.
Most of them seem to have done the same thing: Create a consistent calorie deficit over a long period of time.
You can do it too. Plug your stats into MFP, set your rate of loss (you can probably choose 2lbs a week given you have a lot to lose), and eat the number of calories it recommends. Use a scale to get an accurate measure of what you're eating, and... that's basically it. You can still eat the food you enjoy. You don't need to subsist on lettuce and lentils (unless you actually like them!).
If you're able to add in some exercise, log that too - and MFP will give you more calories to play with.
Good luck!8 -
I've lost 8 stone just 2 more to go! It very simple but also can be very hard. Don't over complicate things, no need to restrict times or certain food groups if you don't want to just eat a bit less than before. Don't go too hard and fast to start with you wont keep it up, and every day you eat at a deficit will help with the loss but if you slip up a bit catch yourself as soon as poss. Don't deprive yourself, either build in your favourite foods either daily or weekly or if you prefer build in the odd mantanance day/ week ( if you lose for 6 days and maintain for one your still losing!) and read up on things like water and salt affecting the scales as this is one of the most often panic posts put on the board! You don't have to exersize to lose weight but it will give you extra food allowance and will help with health and prevent muscle loss (if you lift weights) . Good luck x6

weigh and log your food, stick to your weekly calorie deficit, do some exercise you enjoy and eat back a portion of your exercise calories.
eat some fruit and veg.
welcome to MFP3 -
Make your deficit sustainable, look at the future and not day to day or week to week.
Make the process as least unpleasant as possible.
Weigh and log your food completely and honestly - it's very educational on where your calories are coming from.
You will screw up and have bad days or bad weeks, forgive yourself and get back on it.
If you need a break from dieting over what will be a long time period then eat at maintenance for a set period of time and then get back on it.
Take progress pictures and take measurements as well as tracking your weight - sometimes what we see in the mirror doesn't tell the whole picture and what we see in the mirror isn't reality.
Be organised and disciplined when you shop, no impulse buys. (Don't shop when hungry!)5 -
I was the same. I didn't lose until I was 60 years old. I finally realized that all the magic thinking in the world wasn't going to work for me. I tried low cal, low carb, low fat etc. I had a lapband installed then removed. I did diet pills, Dr. Bernstein, Weight Watchers and so on. I'd lose a few then gain them back with more. For me the answer was finding something I could live with for life. I count calories but I eat things I like in smaller portions. I have removed some things from my diet only because I have no control when I start eating them (candy, I'm talking about you). I started walking daily and making an effort to move more in general. It took me 2 years to lose the weight but it was worth every step. I have learned what I can eat and how to live with my new body and lifestyle. This is the only time in my life since I was a teenager that I was at a healthy weight. I'm maintaining now and will never gain the weight back. I weigh weekly and if it goes up I cut back until I'm back in my healthy range. You can do it! There are lots of folks on these boards who have done it and you can see pictures of them in the Success Forum. Good luck.5

good advice already.
If 7 stone feels a lot, just lose 1 stone. Then do that another 6 times...3 -
Down ~130 lbs, so just under 10 stone. Another 15-20 to go (seems harder than the first 100).
Use MFP as designed. Put in your stats, eat at the suggested amount of calories, making sure to have a decent diet, and get some exercise happening (eat some of those calories as well).
The process does work but takes effort on your part. Ignore 90% of the garbage you read about losing weight, as it's mostly crap. It really comes down to calories so as long as you eat less than you burn, you will lose weight.2 -
