Mirror

Hey everyone! I’ve been struggling a bit with my weight loss! I’ve lost almost 50 pounds but every time I look in the mirror I see no difference! It’s been making me want to give up. I don’t really have a choice not to look in the mirror cus I literally have a giant mirror in my room that’s a part of my makeup table. I also see myself each time I’m in the bathroom! I just need to know if any one else has this problem and how long was it until you saw the results!?

Many people have this issue. Taking measurements and photos can make a big difference. Often you can see in photos what you cannot see in the mirror. I've been there.

Do you have photos to compare to?

Losing 50 lbs is great! Do not give up now! You're not alone in not seeing yourself the way you think you should in the mirror. I've personally experienced this many times. The mind can be tricky.

I agree that measurements and pics are a great way to track your changes. Give your mind time to catch up and keep at it!

Coincidentally, this thread just popped up where the OP also lost 50 pounds and says she didn't see it until she looked at side by side photos:

@kami3006 thank you for showing my that thread! Also thank you for telling me that! Growing up I was always told the mirror you is the real you! So when I don’t see a difference I’m like ughhhhhhhh

@hesn92 I don’t take much photos of myself but is it okay to compare my self now to my two years ago self? I feel like that’s not making much of a difference cus it’s from two years ago 🙄

@bzah10 awwww thank you! I’m trying not to give up but these damn mirrors get in the way of my emotions! I always forget that measurements is a great way to see the weight loss but it’s kinda like even tho I see the number going down on the scale it doesn’t change the fact that I look like a blob in the mirror!

I'm going to add you! I need support as well. My brain keeps telling me I wont lose whether I am in a deficit or not, and I struggle, deeply, with body issues.

If you're 50 pounds lighter than you were two years ago then there's no reason not to compare them. Hang them on your mirror if you need to.

Highly unlikely! We are our own worst critics but negativity and talking down to yourself needs to stop. Talk to yourself as you would a close friend or even a stranger. It sounds silly but changing our inner dialogue from negative to positive has a huge effect on our confidence and self-esteem.

Of course that's okay! My heaviest was over 10 years ago, and I am absolutely using that to compare to now!

@bzah10 I think that’s my exact problem I have confidence or good self esteem so that’s why I’m always negative on myself and the more I get negative the more I drift away from confidence. I don’t even remember how to be positive when it comes to myself. I try to be like body positive and tell myself I look good or imma baddie but it just does not work lol especially when I lose a couple pounds I’m like damnnnnn you look good girl but then an hour later I see myself and I’m like ugh I’m not gonna eat today

This is a huge struggle for many of us. One great piece of advice I heard (maybe even on here) was to look in the mirror and give yourself a compliment on one thing. It can be something small like the color of your hair, your great skin, your eyes, etc. But pick something different every day or week. This can help you get back into the mindset of showing yourself some positivity.
