too much fruit?

A few years ago I was eating a high (animal) protein and low carb diet and missed fruit terribly. Now that I am eating more whole foods I have increased my fruit and love it . Question is this - has anyone definite views on how many cups of fruit is going to be ok daily to loose weight. Im in Sydney and we have the best tropical fruit atm and it is very hard to limit the mango/pineapple etc.Obviousy I have been looking at the sugar when I enter my food into the diary and know which are preferred but just wondered if anyone has the same love of fruit and is loosing weight indulging regularly. Would love to hear of personal experiences with this.

I eat as much fruit as I like as long as it fits my calorie goals8

If you are trying to lose weight then the most important thing is how many calories are in the fruit you are eating and if you can fit them into your calorie goal.

In terms of weight loss, there’s no problem with eating fruit unless it’s putting you over your calorie goal. The only thing that matters for weight loss is eating fewer calories than your body burns.
Other than that, eating a lot of fruit is fine unless it goes against your doctor’s advice for any medical conditions you may have, or if you’re eating so much fruit that you aren’t getting enough protein and/or fat in your diet. You may also find that you don’t feel full for very long if you eat lots of fruit and not much protein and/or fat. But if none of those things apply to you, then enjoy your fruit.5 -
Calories in fruit count the same as calories in anything else as regards weight loss. If you burn 1800 calories a day and eat 2000 calories of fruit you'll gain weight over time. If you eat 1600 calories of Mars bars you'll lose.
So enjoy your fruit and just count the calories!2 -
How much fruit can you eat? As many servings of fruit as will fit into your calorie goal, while still getting enough protein and and healthy fats, plus a reasonable variety of colorful veggies to balance your micronutrients.
Reasonable calories for weight management + balanced eating for nutrition + exercise for fitness = best odds of long term good health.3 -
Thank you for your comments - as I had hoped . So many people have been telling me to avoid too much fruit because of the sugar and I understand specially using MFP that some fruit has more sugar, I haven't done calorie checking for years so wanted to see what people's experience has shown. Really appreciate the feedback.4

Do you need to monitor your carbs? The sugar in fruit is a carb so anyone who has a medical need to keep carbs a bit lower (or chooses to eat low carb) will need to limit the fruit just like they will need to limit the complex carbs (starches).
If you have no such restrictions, go for it and eat as much fruit as you want and can fit into your overall calorie and nutrition goals.2 -
When I was in Costa Rico for 6 weeks I ate fruit all day long and dropped a size without even trying because I was eating less calories overall.2

There is nothing wrong with fruit sugar. Fruit tends to have lots of vitamins and fiber so eat up.
I eat an average of 200-250 calories of fruit a day, sometimes more.

Calories are what matter for weight loss.
For health, eat adequate protein and veg, if doing so, eat fruit to your heart's content, within your calories.0
