My grandma just turned 95 and pretty much started taking the opposite approach a few years ago. She eats hot dogs, Taco Bell, canned soups and chilis, etc. and either cake or ice cream every day. Of course, she's quite sedentary so she eats very small portions but she has whatever she wants.9

I am deeply envious of their ability to not give a eff.
My granddad lived into his 90s eating pickled pigs feet, cooking up and drinking shine, and smoking a pipe.10 -

Turn on, tune in, drop out -- thanks, Timothy Leary. Those were the days.4

Well, now I'm worried again, because two people found the idea of it being a fetish thing "inspiring". ??
ha ha ha.
and 2 people found me saying 'some elderly people are nice, some are not' as insightful
I didnt really need much insight to come up with that statement

If i get to 95, I'll be taking that approach too.
In fact always makes me smile when we have patient in their 90's and their cholestrol is found to be high in incidental blood tests and Dr tells them to adjust their diet or could have long term repercussions.
Heck If I'm 95 and I want to live on cream buns and fried donuts, I will - high cholestrol and long term, repercussions, be damned

I'm 69 and my mother turned 98 in October. She's eats anything and everything and weighs about 110 lbs. Everyone just loves her at the senior center where she plays bingo two days a week. Of course, they don't live with her, LOL.
PS: She's putting my sister and I into early graves chasing her around; at least she keeps us active.
PPS: My parents wouldn't let me go to Woodstock or San Francisco, but I did wear flowers in my hair.13 -
I meant no offense. I just loved her spunk and she surprised me.
No offense taken on my end I even have a funny "elderly" person story to tell:
A couple of years ago I was standing in line at Safeway chatting with an elderly gentleman behind me. When it was my turn I put my stuff on the belt and went to pay. This lovely man called out "How do you stay so slim eating all that ice cream?" as the bagger was putting my stuff away.
I didn't have any ice cream. The bagger was putting away 6 boxes of Kleenex. I managed to thank him with a straight face. He made my day13 -

I had no business being at Woodstock. I was 14. It was life-changing!7 -

I am always so jealous of this! I was in California at the time, and just starting my "counter culture" phase. I didn't even know about Woodstock until the album came out!4 -

Here is my true age related story.
Even on topic with food too, so MFP appropriate LOL
My father is very slim and fit - but he has had very white hair from a relatively young age which made him look older than he was.
When he was 59, him, my mother, and another couple, all same ages, went out to dinner together.
at the end of the meal, he went up to counter to pay - without asking, the server said So, 3 adult meals and 1 seniors for you, that will be $xxx
He wasnt sure whether to be miffed she thought he was older than he was or pleased he got a cheaper meal he wasnt entitled to6 -

I'm so mad I missed it. Hitchhiked around Europe instead in '71.1 -
I love being 70..... yippee
When I was shopping for our Christmas wine an elderly gent tapped me on the shoulder and said "you'll be needing some help with all that wine love.....I sweetly replied.....I won't need help drinking it but you can help me get it in the car if you like.8 -
My mom is 78, thus elderly.
She is being diagnosed with a rare disease like arthritis but in the muscles.
She was eating healthy and working until the week before she became ill (in a daycare).
The medication is working, so with PT I expect another 10 years of quality living our of her.
But her doc says no more gluten, eggs or dairy. So she is pissed. I’ll bet she is salty in my he grocery store now too.4 -
Poor mama, it’s ok. I will cook for her3
