my mom usually likes to buy sweets around the house, and this is like my 10th time trying to lose weight
and i usually "fall off the wagon" because just when im trying to lose weight, there always happens to be a party
or we go out to eat, then i gain the weight back.
What can i do to avoid the sweets and keep on track of my weight goal? Its hard going without something sweet
after awhile. What foods can i eat as a good healthy snack so i dont feel temptation to eat junk food? =/

my advice would be to educate yourself on the "good foods and bad foods"

weight loss avoiding temptation didn't stick with me until i realized what was in the foods i was tempted by. look up the effects of high fructose corn syrup and processed foods.

once i read about them i was turned off by them. and now even when i am tempted, the thought of whats in the food makes me turn to a nice bowl of grapes

and if the grapes don't work, i try to cook my own healthier version of the food. lol.
  • don't give up the sweets just moderate them. if you have to have a peice of cake then cut it in half twice eat only a quarter and throw the rest away.

    thats a good idea.
reading the back of the foods with nutritional details would probaly turn me away from eating them! :P

Plan for it. This is a lifestyle...not a diet. I am on 1200 calories. I went to Olive Garden for a late lunch/early dinner. I ordered the Venetian Apricot Chicken (it had the olive branch which meant healthier choice). It listed as 400 calories for the dinner portion which is what I had. when it got delivered, I separated into two sections (which would be 200 calories each). I ate one section and asked for a take home container. I still counted 400 calories because I had one breadstick (estimate about 80 calories) and some salad.....I feel 400 calories is a good estimate.

You can fit those special situations into your plan. If you have something that you don't have the calories for, you'll need to do some sort of exercise to earn those calories.

Don't give up, just focus on your goal and find a way to work thru those events. Enjoy your life. Don't allow yourself to feel deprived - if you do, you'll get discouraged.

gwenmf's right - you need to "train" yourself to eat a balanced diet. Remember, a diet is not something you do for 6-12 weeks to fit into a prom/wedding outfit, it's your daily consumption of nutrients in the form of food and drink. I sometimes think using the word DIET as a weight-loss plan should be banned. :explode:

Jill, does your mom have the candies in bowls around the house? Maybe you should bring over some grapes or blueberries and suggests she has these out too.

I am a chocoholic... my belly is 100% sugar from biscuits, choc bars, ice creams and puddings.

But while I've given up chocolate for a while, because I made a pledge to a friend that I would do so, I know I will have to reintroduce it into my diet at some stage. We still have sweets in the sweetie basket and there's chocolate in the fridge, magnums in the freezer and biscuits in the cupboard. I think I would crave them more if they weren't there!

Amazingly, I don't crave them AT ALL

I also have apples and bananas on the table and grapes in the fridge for when I want a sugar fix, but really I only eat them when I fancy them and haven't really used them as a sweetie substitute.

I know it's hard when temptation is EVERYWHERE, but it's like quitting smoking or any other addiction; you need will power :flowerforyou:

Tasty Temptaion is a big big hurdle for someone losing weight.Simply killing the craving often backfires so keep the sweets to the minimum instead for an all out stop.Body takes time to adjust to the food habits. You need to tame your tongue gradually and not instantly.

The healthy food for snacks should be fruits.Start with apples. It will be tasty, naturally sweet, full of fibers and less calories. Then you can move to sprouts sprinkled with lemon and so on.

Throwing the cake away is not a solution. The solution is for you to exercise self discipline. We have junk around the house that i eat very sparingly but i don't eat it just because it's there.
