Most people here don't follow particular diet plans. I suggest you go through the guided setup where you input your current and goal weight, your activity level, and what you seek to lose on average weekly. Then just log your calories in the food diary. Welcome to MFP!

Buy a scale, log ALL your food accurately. Every last bite. Ever on special days or cheat days.
    Log your exercise .
You need to know where you are NOW. ie the beginning of the journey.

Then next step is to make realistic adjustments. Things that make sense for you & your life style.
Whether it be reduce your soft drinks by half.
Increase your fiber & protein & water.
Walk an extra 15 minutes every other day.
Stretch for 15 minutes every day.
Get 15 minutes more sleep a nite.
What ever works for you !!

    Baby steps, baby steps. :)

And don't focus on the scale TOO much. It's only part of the picture.
A pound of fat takes up MORE ROOM than a pound of muscle.
Which means, if you lose some fat & gain some muscle you could be the same weight as before, but your clothes fit looser & you look thinner. You'll look smaller. And you'll be heathier.
    Hope that makes sense.

Speaking of not focusing on the scale too much, check out the NSV (ie non-scale victories) link.
Here's one to get you inspired :

    And another good post.

You can do this. Buy a scale. Count calories. Eat less than you have been eating. (the food choices do not matter as much as you might think.) Pay attention to calories and you will lose weight.

Hi, I'm 70. I've failed at all diets that I've tried. Diet.....don't you just hate that word.

Finally, My Fitness Pal has helped me to break through my unfitness. Here's my short story:

When I began this journey, I weighed 215 and I'm 5' 7. That's 50 pounds too much. My knees ached, I was short of breath, I was puffy. I felt cumbersome and ugly. Invisibility began to set in. Depression began to overtake me. I developed type II diabetes.

My daughter, who is 35 sat me down, crying her eyes out and pleaded with me to stop this death path. This path that I had chosen to take and handed over the power to; to basically rob, then kill me.

I made a personal pact with MFP... my new best friend who I look forward to visiting everyday...throughout the day. For those of you who live alone or have difficulty getting out and about, make MFP your pen pal!
