Work Lunch

I am currently doing labour work, and I am wondering what I could have for lunch? I’m currently on a 1900 calorie plan per day. The sites I am on have no access to kitchens therefore no microwaves etc. Any suggestions of filling ‘healthy’ lunches?

You can eat whatever you want if it fits in your day. Anything that you can eat that can either be kept cool enough or warm enough should be okay. Something simple like a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a piece of fruit is perfectly fine if you budget your calories. As far as being "healthy" all of it has nutrients.

The big mistake some people make is making things more complicated than they need to be especially in a situation like yours where you have no access to a kitchen.

I have a thermal lunchbox that came with removable gel ice packs that can be slipped into the side pockets. You could use something like that to pack a sandwich or salad or wrap and not rely on having a refrigerator. Just log your lunch when you put it together and make the rest of your day fit accordingly.

Suggestion - 4 cold boiled potatoes = 440 calories. Good fuel, easy to pack and you’ll get full with a good number of calories remaining when you get home to chow down. This is my little trick on some days and I like it.

my husband is a welder and usually on job sites. hes not watching his weight (*kitten* could gain a few pounds) but i make him a sandwich and some sort of 'snack' side. in his case, chips or cookies or popcorn or whatever junk food i bought for him and my son for the week. it varies and i try to give him a different 'treat' every day. sometimes junk food, sometime fruit, sometimes both. depends on what i feel like doing in the morning.

in your case, make your 'something else' fruit or veggie or whatever else will fit in your calorie goals. his sandwich probably is around 400 cals, depending on the bread or roll i use for him. for yourself you can use a lower calorie bread or wrap or whatever. or pack a nice salad.

use an insulated lunch box/tote with an ice pack to keep things cool. a frozen water bottle doubles as ice pack and drink.

Yogurt with fruit and granola would keep in a lunch box well. Hummus and veggies. Air popped popcorn is great for a snack.

If you have a good thermos, you can take hot soup.
