What is your height & weight. That sounds quite low and hard to maintain. My calorie goal is 1700 calories and is sustainable for me. Everyone is different though11

I avgerage around 2000 calories for weight loss (total...not net...my net is usually between 1300-1600 depending on activity level setting).
Remember that MFP gives you a low calorie goal because they expect you to eat at least some of your exercise calories.
Also your rate of loss is another thing to consider.
If you are given 1200 calories 9 out of 10 times it is because you selected at rate of loss that is to fast for your current weight and activity level.
For example MFP estimates I would maintain on 1897 calories without exercise based on the Lightly Active setting.
For me this translates to:
1897-250= 1647 NET for 0.5lb per week
1897-500= 1397 NET for 1 lb per week
1897-750= 1200 NET for 1.39lb per week
1897-1000=1200 NET for 1.39lb per week
I don’t weigh enough at my activity level to safely lose more than 1.39lbs per week and that would be a real struggle to stick to that deficit.
NIH recommends losing 10% body weight over 6 months for sustainable weight loss. That’s about 0.5lbs a week for me.
Recommendations for sustainable weight loss deficits are:
0.5lb per week if 25 lbs or less to lose
1lb per week if 25-50lbs to lose
1.5lb per week if 50-75lbs to lose
2lbs per week if 75+ lbs to lose

I'm on 1200 because I'm 70 and only 5 foot22

You should increase your cardio in order to meet your calorie goal 😊23

net 1950 to maintain4

Few women ACTUALLY need to be on 1200 to lose. I am 5'1 and loosing at 1350. and i don't actively exercise other than walking.
Consider if you have selected to quick a rate of loss (2lbs is only recommended if you are obese - i fyou are loosing "vanity pounds" than no more than 0.5-1lb a week).
Remember to eat back your exercise calories. that is how the program on MFP works. and the sedentary setting is for nearly bedridden people most people who are not ill would select a higher level.10 -
I'm 5'9 and with me putting my goal to lose a pound a week with a sedentary lifestyle, MFP set my daily goal as 1550 (which is actually below my BMR of 1658). I've been going over slightly everyday but so far I've lost 7 pounds since Dec 21. Once I start adding exercise into the mix in February, I'll up my intake.5

Maintain on about 2,100 - 2,200 gross, and I’m 5’3.5 (that half an inch is important!)6
-
Am on 1600 a day and don't eat back exercise calories. This has been agreed with my dietician.
Exercise at the moment for me doesn't burn much more than 100-150 calories. If I up exercise to the point where I'm burning consistently more, I'll start eating some back.3 -
I'm 5'0" and have MFP set to1300 a day and am losing about a pound a week give or take. I'll be 60 in a couple of months if that matters.
Some days it's a bit under but I do try to get to at least the 1300 mark.
While I do feel satiated at 1200, it's better for me to get a bit higher to make sure I meet my nutrition needs.
Caveat here: I do not exercise - I'm fairly sedentary although I do get in some walking daily, but due to my desk job, I calculate myself as "inactive".1 -
It's day 24 and I just re-adjusted my calorie goal because it may have been too low. I was doing 1200/day. I'm 5'8" and have 10 lbs to lose, lightly active and workout 2x/week. It's been brought up to 1430. I hope I will still lose.0

I'm at 1,280, losing a pound a week. 30 pounds to lose to get to a normal weight range, 5'1'', sedentary. Will probably switch to 1/2 lb. a week soon.2

im 5'1 and maintenance is 1600ish for me. so, anything under and i lose. i average between 1200-1400 cals a day. some days over, not many under that.

5'9", 44 years old, my maintenance calories are ~2400, so I can lose on anything less than that. I usually target 1800-2000 calories a day.5
-
I aim for between 1200-1300 on a non-workout day. On days I run I typically get an extra 200-300 calories. I’ve lost 45 lbs so far with another 25 to go!4

MFP gave me 1200 when I started out with weight loss. I did not start exercising right away and this is was unbearable for me. Then it was 1200 + exercise, a lot more doable.
Fast forward after weight loss, activities/continuing with exercise, I maintain on net 1900. In the summer, I maintain a little higher due to increased activity.1 -
I lost weight on 1500, now maintaining at @ 1800.
What is your height and weight, and how many lbs per week did you set it to lose?2 -
I'm 159cm, 67.6kg and losing at about 0.25kg a week on averaging 1900kcals2
-
I am 5'0" , 128 lbs and I am on 1300. This is my goal to lose 1/2 lb a week. I walk about 10,000 steps a day. Some days I eat more if I am more active. My maintenance calories are low even with exercise.3
-
I'm 5'6" and lose 1lb/week on 1560 at sedentary0

Are you sedentary? MFP would only give you 1200 cals if you are?2 -
I'm 5'5, 41, female, and eat between 1500-2000 depending on exercise.1
-
5'3, losing on 1360 before exercise. In reality, with exercise, eating about 1700 a day. (On a maintenance break this week so more like 2,000 with exercise.)2
-
5'3", 158lbs and maintain on 2500cal right now- i just did a short cut and i'm slowly building my calories back up - workouts are limited/light, but i start a 9 week cycling plan next week, so calories will jump3
-
I'm 5'9", eat 1400 calories. I increase that if I am hungry or have a super active day. I don't do formal exercise at this point in time. I am 39yo, 275lbs and my TDEE is ~ 2400.
Calculators have me maintaining at about 1800 (sedentary, no exercise), for my goal weight of 160, so I figure I can ride 1400 pretty much all the way to the finish line. 👍0 -
I’m on 1650, losing slow and steady. Pleased with my progress and not driving myself crazy with unattainable strictness. It’s all about balance.0

If your TDEE is 2400, that's your maintenance. I'm confused.5 -
5'2, 1500-1800 with a goal to lose .5 lb per week. I'm at a healthy BMI and 1200 makes me cranky. Nothankyou.1

That was my bad. I edited to add that the 1800 was for my goal weight.0
