I screwed up! š«

Ok so I have been doing sooo good and even eating healthy and having smaller portions when I go to my parents house on Sundays.. well for the past 3 days now I have failed. It started off with Saturday I took my son to a birthday party they had pizza and cake. Of course I ate some. THEN Sunday I cook this amazing dessert to take over to my parents house.. well I had some and they didnāt even cook healthy at all. Today I had some of the dessert after supper. Blah I failed soo bad!
Anyways I weighed myself this morning and I gained 2 pounds back! This is soo depressing after being good for soo long.
Anyways if your still reading thank you I wanted to vent to somebody.
Tomorrow is a new day which of course I will weigh myself and Iām going to start working off these 2 pounds back off š« which by tomorrow it will probably be more

Everyone has slip ups. You just keep moving forward.
Itās unlikely that you truly gained 2 lbs of fat, itās probably mostly water weight.11 -
Quick weight gain is mostly water fluctuations, not fat gains. I get that it can still be hard to see a higher number on the scale, but not worth what you are putting yourself through right now. These types of events are going to happen for the rest of your life. I strongly recommend that you take the weight loss phase to learn how to cope with them. Enjoying an event won't make or break your weight, it's not even a blip in the radar in the grand scheme of things.8

You have to find ways to allow yourself some flexibility. Eating the food provided to you at a party or a meal with family members isnāt inherently bad. Unless you plan on never partaking in social meals in the future, you need to make adjustments to your perspective so you can accomplish your health goals in a way that is sustainable and guilt-free.
Did you stay within your goal for each day? If not, how does your deficit look for the week as a whole? As PP stated, most likely the spike you are seeing on the scale (or at least part of it) is water weight.8 -

You didn't screw up, you saw food that tastes good and decided to enjoy it. That's what humans do. It's unnatural to force yourself to eat a certain way, so many people can't keep that up unless it's so easy for them that it becomes natural. In most cases, idealistic plans have to go in favor of something more sustainable.
The only thing I see you could have done differently is plan. You went into a situation where you knew you would be exposed to things that look tempting and the only plan you had is to ride your willpower. That rarely works for most people. Next time you know you will be exposed to higher calorie foods that you like, have a strategy in place. For example, you could save up calories in advance to enjoy more food, you could take a couple of days eating at maintenance, you could fill your stomach with lower calorie options beforehand so you aren't tempted to eat more than a couple of slices of pizza, you could decide to limit your choices to a few things you really like...etc. Anything that works, guilt-free. You may need to experiment quite a bit to find something that makes it easier not to overdo your calories in certain situations.
It's just food, not the boogie man. You're making things harder than they need to be by linking food to negative emotions and measuring your "goodness" level by the foods you eat.
P.S: that weight gain is temporary. Some foods (and things other than food) can cause the body to retain more water. Your weight can fluctuate up and down after certain things or even for no reason at all. That's not real fat gain, so don't worry about it.17 -
Donāt beat yourself up about it too much! Just get right back into it, donāt focus on how āyou failedā focus on how the new day will be and just really try to plan out your meals. Itās all about willpower when it comes to this2

I'm reading your post and thinking you are putting yourself down by thinking you've failed. There's nothing wrong with eating pizza/dessert/whatever... the main thing is that you log everything, some days you may well go over your allotted calories but its not the end of the world if the majority of the time you are being consistent.10

You have to stop thinking in terms of weight loss will make you happy and start thinking in terms of just being happy. Feeling guilty over eating more food is the absolute wrong thing to do. If you eat a piece of cake you should enjoy it with zero remorse because it is absolutely okay if you spend most of your time in a calorie deficit.
Eating "healthy" makes me nervous for you too. I have seen way too many people use this language and what they meant was they deprived themselves of food they enjoy. This is not necessary. You do want to get in your basic nutrition but there is nothing wrong with eating any kind of food in moderation if you don't have a medical restriction.
There is no special food formula to weight loss. You eat less calories than you burn and you will lose weight. It is also more than okay to take a day off to enjoy life.

I discovered the same problem with family dinners. I have no problem sticking to my calories until I end up somewhere I have no control over meal choices. I went to a family dinner with 350 left. Even with small portions, I ended up using 650 calories. So I started saving calories for dinner/evening. Problem solved. Yesterday I didnāt use 200 calories.5

Unless you ate 7,000 calories OVER your maintenance calorie intake, you did not actually gain 2lbs of fat. It's mostly water retention and will disappear over the next few days.
Do you have a weight trending app? If not I'd suggest getting one, it will help you learn what your body's normal weight fluctuations are. Remember-your weight will fluctuate daily due to all sorts of things, and this is perfectly normal (I'm up on the scale today because tom started-no biggie). For android it's Libra and for apple its Happy Scale.4 -

I just got done with a very heavy weekend of partying and everything else that does with it! I know where you are coming from. I told myself I am not going to let that stop or derail me with my longer term goals of healthy eating, exercise and weight loss. I got back on the good eating train yesterday and that's what I suggest you do. Quickly realize what your past mistakes are, learn from those mistakes and move forward. Good luck to you!!2

Hell, I ate a little extra this weekend. Probably 300 cals over Saturday about 400 Sunday but Iāve got the rest of the week planned out to have a small 100-200 calorie deficit each day to even it out. Donāt beat yourself up about it, itās all about balance not perfection.3

Omg my dessert had brownie on the bottom layer. Brownies are my favorite I canāt turn them down. The rest of my dessert I had I threw away in the trash so I canāt be tempted to eat it š1 -

I don't know as much as a lot of the folks posting tips here, but one thing I know for sure is I am without a doubt my own worst enemy. I can berate myself over having done absolutely nothing wrong.
That said, the proof is in the pudding, pun very much intended because I love pudding too lol. What I mean is that as much as I love foods that aren't very packed with nutrients, like desserts, my scale is still showing a downward trend. So I'm ok.
Like I said earlier, be kind to yourself. Speedbumps are temporary.2 -
I consistently have a blizzards a week and another ācheatā item and consistently lose weight. I donāt call them anything though, itās factored into my life. There is only one way to gain weight, eat more than you burn. Opposite if you want to lose weight. Burn more than you eat. Always track your food even if you donāt stay on plan that way you can see itās only water weight. It takes 3500 calls will put on 1 pound of fat. Itās hard to burn 3500 cals so I always ask myself can I substitute what I want for something else? Sometimes I wonāt have a 500 cal blizzard and I will do a 120 cal choc bar instead, depending on my activity level or if Iām craving unwanted loaded bread carbs how about a mango instead. I compromise a lot. Instead of junking out on pizza I have 1 slice with a healthy salad and veggies. Turn unhealthy meals healthy by doing it in moderation and small portions. If someone serves unhealthy food, I eat before I go then limit myself to a half cup or cup of what they have (1 item) you can enjoy all foods in moderation. Guilt free eating is a result of moderation and portion size, itās the only way to live. Feeling bad about what we eat is unhelpful-focus on portion and moderation, balanced meals, compromise on unhealthy items burn more than you eat. Enjoy what you eat and find an exercise you love, rejoice in the progress release food negativity itās all a lie. The biggest abusive relationships many have are with themselves, what you say to yourself can be more harmful then food. Stay positive. š1

Making up with exercise after overeating is under "purging" in various eating disorders. Don't do it.2
