today i’ve flopped and at too many snacks. crisps (chips), half portion of skittles and 5 chocolate digestives today. more out of greed than hunger and tomorrow is weigh in day and in your opinion having a slip up the day before a weigh in will have a different effect then let’s say if i had a slip up like 5 days ago

Of course. You may see wide swings due to water weight. oh bother...5

Sure - eating in excess of your normal calories and/or carbs and/or sodium levels can lead to water retention.
One way to combat that is to weigh more regularly, using a weight trending app, so that you are more comfortable with the natural daily fluctuations that our bodies go through.
Did you exceed your total calorie intake for the day? What about for the week? Did you feel compelled to eat these foods because your typical plan is overly restrictive?3 -

today i had 1,900 calories and another day i had 1,700 and i wouldn’t say it’s over restricted bc i add snacks in moderation and also i just found out i should be eating exercise calories. i just calculated and over the week i’ve had a collective deficit of 2058 so probably only half a pound loss this week i’d assume but i’m scared for the water fluctuations on the scale tomorrow

And as I said in your other thread, read ALL the helpful forum posts. All the questions you are asking have been asked and answered many times on MFP. The good news is that you aren't alone in your confusion but also that these answers have been patiently discussed by many veterans before and so taking the time to do the work to read through the forums to see if you can educate yourself first, before starting another post, would likely be appreciated.11 -

Water fluctuations are nothing to be scared of. They just are. So what if you weigh a bit more tomorrow and see a bigger-than-expected loss next week because of it?4 -
Most likely...you will have more inherent waste in your system and likely additional water weight.2

Try not to be scared. Fluctuations are simply apart of our composition. It's going to happen. Often. Daily. The more you track your weight, the better understanding you will have of your body and what fluctuations you are possibly seeing.
Possibly look into getting a weight trending app (such as Happy Scale), where you can log and see your fluctuations and trends as you journey on through your weight loss.

Another thing about fluctuations that probably is not said enough:
1. Your body regulates this naturally.
2. That's a very good thing. (Muscle repair, glycogen storage, usage for the various organs as needed, etc.)
3. You should never try to manipulate this unless you have a specific medical condition that warrants it.
As another poster mentioned. It just is.3 -
Maybe, but it's not the end of the road. You can still lose again, next week.0

Definitely try daily weigh ins and using a trending app. It will reveal what's really happening rather than just points in time. It also shows how weight fluctuations can mask progress.
This is a weight loss graph showing weekly weigh ins
Weight is measured on 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd and all showed a weight of 150. According to this you'd think that this persons weight had plateaued.
This is the same weight loss showing daily weigh ins (and a trend line)
Even though the the weights on the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd still show as 150 the additional information reveals that there is no plateau and over that period the persons weight is actually moving in the right direction

I more concerned that you have 5 chocolate digestives. Im guessing those are laxatives.5

It will affect the scales, for me if I eat more on the weekends (which I do as a rule anyway), the scale will reflect that as a spike for around 3 days before it drops back down again, I can see as much as 4lbs of a spike, depending on what I was having - high sodium/high carb e.g.
But the main thing is its just temporary, our bodies fluctuate anyway, some days more than others. The overall trend is the main thing.0 -
I find when I have a day over I am ok to keep going as long as I log it so I am taking accountability for it. It is not the end of the road. Take it as a learning experience and start fresh with the next thing you eat0

I think this is just a natural of any sort of message board/information group. I'm a veteran in some groups on FB (photography and expat living) and it's the same thing. Every third post is "best lens for weddings" or "does anyone know a good immigration lawyer". Kind of like weight fluctuations, repetitive questions kind of just are.2
