I go at lunch, usually 1:30 - 2:30 and it's pretty quiet. Can get a good 20-30 minute workout in without having to wait for a machine.2

I am debating if I want to join . I don't like the fact you have to pay a start up fee ??I mean what is a start up fee ?0
-
That’s why I never joined bc of the start up fee. But I realized that they offer every November/December a 1yr for $99 with no extra fees. So i jumped on it.1
-
I joined recently at .25 cent start up/ $10. A month. I am able to do excellent strength training and cardio workouts so far.1

I go to an equivalent gym in Canada called buzzfit. I wake up at 230 am to get there by 3 am. Like having a private gym, as I am usually one of 3 people there.

That just shows they are over charging if they offer .25 cents .
How good are the trainers ?0 -
I typically go about 7:00 pm. There are usually several people working out, but I typically don't have to wait (or wait long) for a machine.0

In January they do a $1 start up...then where they get you is March 1 with their "annual fee" of around $40.0 -

Yep. Love it. Go about 4:30 each day. Weights for an hour then “time-out” the treadmill at 65 mins. How bout you?0

But annual and joining fees are extremely common for gyms and for $10 a month should not be a deciding factor. Many credit cards used to have annual fees. (This may still be a thing - it's not for mine.)
Not sure if staff has any flexibility in waving this.1 -
They have a few random fees here and there, but the monthly rate is so much less than any other gym in my area that it's worth it to pay the startup and annual fee.0
-
Typically if you ask to waive those fees, they will. Remember, everything is negotiable!0

Hit Planet Fitness after work around 5:30pm, has gotten really busy since the new year. Don't usually have to wait long to use any machines, plus they have enough variety that I can do something else while waiting.1
-
I normally go around 9pm not to many people go so I find it perfect as well as recording videos it’s a good time.0
-
love it - I work out between 6and 7 then shower and then off to work.0
-
Now that my kids are older and can be left alone I don’t have to worry about when I can go anymore; so on weekends I try to go around 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon. They recently opened a PF 5 min from my work, so 3 days a week I go around 1:00. I luckily have a very flexible boss, so I usually do circuit or 30 min on the treadmill. I’m usually only taking about 5-10 min over my hour lunch break after showering.0
-
Since it is open around the clock, I use to go at 3:00 Am. The place would be empty.0

I’m a bit embarrassed by my fitness level right now, but I love working out. I go around 4:30AM. That’s really the easiest time for me to go and with very few people there it isn’t intimidating. If I miss my morning workout and decide to exercise in the evenings I go to a different gym. PF just gets too crowded for me. Down side is that I used to teach at the other gym so I feel judged there. I’m sure it’s all in my head, but give me early morning PF any day. I really like it.
Good luck finding your groove.0 -
I go after work, 5:30-7:30. I like it, serves it's purpose. Not too crowded, I can usually use the machine/equipment I want when I want or its no big deal to get on something else until that one is free. I wouldn't say that Planet Fitness has "trainers" per se. More like staff that shows small groups how to use the equipment properly.
But for the price I don't think you could do much better.1 -
I don't think you can find a cheaper gym than PF. You can't argue the value and you can't say you can't afford that level of gym. If you have one nearby and you are considering using a gym then it is an easy choice.0
-
I either go around 5 AM, if I am working out before work, or around 6 PM. It's definitely more crowded in the evening, but I haven't had any issues getting a machine at either time. It seems to thin out quite a bit by 7 PM.
As for the fees: I didn't pay a start-up fee, but I joined in December, so they may have been running a special. And every gym I looked at charges an annual fee of some sort. I don't mind paying the annual fee if the gym is well-maintained, and the Planet Fitness I go to is. I paid an annual fee at my last gym, and the machines were constantly not working properly. I am much happier at Planet Fitness so far.1 -
I took out a membership last year just to use their treadmills when the weather was too bad to run outside. Never had a problem getting equipment showing up shortly after 5:00PM but sometimes lockers were an issue. I've since had my treadmill at home repaired....0

1) are there gyms without annual fees?
2) is $160 per year (about $13.30 per month) for a gym membership that crazy? I use it about 3 times per week, so that is around $1.50 per workout, lol, how much less can they reasonably charge?0
