Staying motivated and Diet Questions... Needing so much help!

I so need help y'all! I am at my wits end with being over weight. I do not want to live this way another day. What type of diet are you following and what works best? I am thinking possibly low carb as I can not seem to limit sweets, soft drinks, etc. What helps you to stay motivated? How do you reward yourself? I lost about 30lbs a few years ago and have gained it and more back, Grrrrrr!!! I could also use friends who are motivating and log daily to help me along. Feel free to add me. Thanks for your help!

I didn't follow a diet. Just logged consistently and learned as I went what foods filled me up and what foods were a waste of calories. It worked great because now that I'm in maintenance I just happily eat the exact same way but with a few more calories.
I didn't reward myself, I honestly felt like it was my responsibility to get a healthy weight. I also was again looking to maintenance, and realizing this would be a lifelong journey I didn't want it to be a difficult thing that required rewarding myself that would end at some point. I know others do use rewards though!

Hi there! You said you're thinking about going low carb, but the real question is, do you see yourself continuing to eat low carb long after you've lost the weight you desire? Losing weight isn't just about finding the best diet, it's about finding the right diet sustainable for you, forever.
You may end up loving going low carb, as many have and that is great, but keep in mind the long term. You want to create habits and routines that will work for you over time and not just in the immediate. Just something to chew on for a bit.
Definitely take a read through the stickies at the top of the forum and give the post @quiksylver296 has posted a read through. They are quite helpful and have loads of information.

I don’t follow a particular diet, but I do try to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables cause I find they fill me up. The fiber helps satisfy me and I add a little spice for a kick. For example, soba noodles with chicken and vegetables and siracha sauce. I save room for wine at the end of the day or a sweet treat like milk tea and a cookie.
I do not drink soda or eat fast food. It’s not my thing so I’m not tempted. My temptations are french fries, margaritas, chips and salsa, and red wine. At the moment, I’m limiting those a lot.
I am rewarding myself this time around. i just hit my first goal and got some cute new work out clothes. My ultimate reward and what I really want is a reformer machine for home use. We’ll see. I need to figure out a place to put it too. Lol.
I do log daily and my diary is open to friends, so friend me if you want.
Also, try not to get down on yourself. I’ve done that too. But I just remind myself, I’m doing something anout it NOW. And that’s what matters.4 -

I'm just eating a little less and moving a little more.
I found that upping protein, fruit, and fiber makes it easier for me to eat less sweets. I'm not low carb, but I did find reducing carbs helpful.4 -
I was the same way last year! I’ve lost 21 pounds sense then still got 30 to go!
I couldn’t do keto or low carb long term.
I do try to limit certain things that don’t keep me full for long.
For me it’s pretty simple.
Log everything
Stay consistent
Eat more vegetables
Drink lots of water
Move more even just walking or yoga
Stay within my calories but be a little flexible, I eat anywhere from 1400-1800 calories a day. Even at the high end I would still lose weight.7 -

I don’t follow a diet. I found portion control to be key. I try to eat lots of vegetables and have protein with every meal to keep me feeling full. I allow for foods that I crave but again it’s portion control. I just have a few bites of it. I stay under my calorie goal this way. Adding exercise helps. Like people have said. Your eating has to be something you can maintain long term. You have to think of it as a way of life. A healthy lifestyle you’re trying to create. I know I need to exercise more so I’ve made it a goal this month to hit the gym 3X/week. Above all else. Hang in there! It’s hard to form new habits. If it was easy we wouldn’t need support and have forums like this one!4

Like me you are probably insulin resistant and the constant intake of carbs leads to a constant hunger and constant cravings. High fat fixes that for me. I always craved sweets and carbs and overate but haven't touched anything sweet since I can't remember when. I am, or was, a volume eater. I like to eat a lot of food. Keto gives me such good appetite control that I only eat twice a day now as opposed to the 5 times a day I ate when I was carb heavy. I have more trouble eating enough calories than I do overeating.
I'd suggest going to Low Carb Down Under and Dr. Boz as a way to learn about healthy ways to do keto and about the science behind it. For me it's a diet for life, it's not temporary. It's not for everyone, it's quite restrictive, but it works and, IMO, it's healthy if done with healthy food sources.

Mini goals help me to stay motivated. I set a reasonable goal, record my progress. When I reach that goal I just sit back and look at it enjoying the evidence. These could be scale or non-scale victories. Exercise goals, inches goals, accurate tracking goals and everyday I eat at a deficit goal. Today I ate at my calorie goal, I am celebrating just by looking at my diary and saying to myself I did another day!6
