Why does mfp not list snowshoeing as an exercise? How do I estimate the calories I burn on a hilly 1.5/2 hr snowshoeing excursion? I certainly get sweaty and out of breath!

Getting sweaty and out of breath isn't necessarily indicative of calorie expenditure? Are you breaking new trail? Snowshoeing in hilly terrain? Powder or packed snow?

There are a lot of variables to take into account and I've seen some calculators suggesting over 500 cal/hr if you're breaking trail in powder. I've heard that some Suunto GPS watches have a snowshoeing setting but they tend to be very pricey. I use my Garmin's walking setting and consider the extra calories burned a bonus.

Snowshoeing can be difficult or easy depending on the incline/decline and snowpack. I haven't found a good calculator for it yet. I'm currently using the omnicalculator.com and using the calculation for hiking as it takes into account elevation gain and pack weight.

I use map my hike. For fluffy, hilly, hard work snow shoeing, it gave me 550 calories for 1.5 miles in an hour. I was soaking wet from sweat when I got home.

Use "Snow Shoeing". It's in the database.
