Adding flavors to water

This will seem like a silly question, but I want to know what people’s take is on adding those 10 calorie flavor packs to water? I personally feel like it’s cheating and I’m not really drinking my water. Would appreciate hearing thoughts on this. Thanks

Why would adding flavor to water make it not water? Cheating on what?
Your body extracts water from any beverages and foods you eat and drink. That's what your digestive system does, it breaks down everything you consume into the different parts it needs.
If your pee is light colored, your getting enough water. :drinker:5 -
It's not "cheating". Your body gets the same amount of water from the water you drink, whether it has flavor packs in them or not.
If flavor packs help you drink more water and enjoy them, go for them. I don't personally find them necessary, as I like plain water well enough, but if they work for you, go for it. You could also try just spritzing some fresh lemon in your water as well.3 -
I confess I did it for month or so till I read the ingredients on the flavor packs. some of the packets were pretty bad. maybe it applies maybe it does not depending on the product though.9

Not cheating.. I don't like plain water ...
I typically add flavoring pack on my bottled water4 -
I love a slice of lemon (from my own lemon tree) with my rooibos tea and right now grenadillas are getting ripe: Freeze some of the pulp in ice block cubes and add to water / tea etc. Refreshing, delicious and cheap and I know that no colourants / flavourants / other rubbish has been added.5

I don't add flavour packs, but do add slices of lemon/lime/cucumber/bluberries/raspberries sometimes combinations.
Whatever you do to it, it's still water.0 -

Actually bad, or not understanding the ingredients = bad?

If you like the flavor and the packets fit into your calorie goal, then there’s no reason not to use them. A flavor packet doesn’t make your water not water anymore.2
-
Other options you could try is fresh lime, herbs, cucumber and/or vinegar (I love rice wine vinegar) if you like a bit of a punch to your drinks0

Adding flavors to water does not make it not water.4 -
I add Mio flavored drops. It's just a squirt each time and it makes water so much easier to drink.3

Adding flavors to water does not make it not water.
So I can add my scotch to water?

Water's water. And your body can get hydration from water, milk, juice, fruits/veggies...it's all good. I drink plain water at work all day but use Mio at home to add some flavour. As long as your body is staying hydrated, you're good.2
-
I personally don't like those flavor packs because I prefer plain water. But, using them isn't cheating. Your body is still getting the same amount of water, flavored or not. Log those 10 or so calories from the flavor packets, and there's no "cheating" from any angle. Some people just don't like the taste of plain water but still want a low calorie drink. Win-win2
-
What are you cheating?
Drinking water isn't a punishment, it isn't some behavior that you owe the universe, it's not something you do to get credit.
It's just a way to stay hydrated.3 -
Cheating is drinking soda and calling it water 😂 Adding these packets is not deceptive which is what cheating is. It’s literally just adding something to water.9

Soda is just flavored water with carbonation added.

I'm not speaking for what @Liamsm0m meant with the soda and cheating comment, just how I read the comment. I just took it to mean it would be "cheating" to drink soda, call it water, and not log the calories for the soda. This is not cheating in the moral sense of the word. You aren't getting results you didn't earn like you would if you cheated on a test. It is "cheating" in the sense that most people apply the word to weight loss, but in that case the person you are really deceiving is yourself.
It's too bad "cheating" on weight loss effort doesn't work in the same way as the moral sense of the word though. If we could find a way to make the calories we pretend we didn't eat actually not count and get those results we didn't work for, I'm pretty sure we'd all be doing it.1 -
Personally I advise you stay away from flavor packets and opt for natural flavoring. The packets usually contain all kinds of garbage and you would be better off eating the package it comes in than the product itself!
I too don't really care for plain water. I typically add a splash (less than a 1/4 cup) of whatever juice is in the fridge (unsweetened) or a tablespoon of Ribena (black currant syrup).
I have just recently started adding a tablespoon of concentrated lemon juice to my water, which has no calories but lots of Vitamin C.
I also include my morning coffee (2 cups - 500ml) and any sparkling water (soda water) to my daily intake. Note: there are some great flavored sparkling waters out there that also have no calories.

Not really - it does have 2.5 calories per table spoon and you get a whopping 3.24 mg of vitamin C (less than 4% of the RDA).
And what exactly is the 'garbage' in the water enhancers?4 -
🙄 I meant literally drinking soda and then saying you drank water, not soda. That’s cheating, to use the original OP’s word.
As in, “I drank 64 oz of water today”. (But you drank soda).
IDGAF what anyone choose to drink. And yes, I’m aware soda is made from water. 😒
If you’re not going to “speak” to something @Sunshine_And_Sand, then don’t tag me 🤦🏻♀️

I sincerely apologize for obviously offending you. I didn't feel your post was controversial or deserving of people saying you didn't know soda is made of water. I said I wasn't speaking to your meaning because I don't feel your post needed defending and was only saying how I read it (like I said).
I will not tag you again.
Edit: typo3 -
You get water from liquids you drink and food you eat. It’s not cheating to use flavors in your water.2

I've developed the joy of squeezing a fresh lime into my water, very flavorful and refreshing for me.0
-
well it changes it from water to flavored water. so it is different.0
-
If you're replacing regular soda with a 10-calorie flavor pack, you're saving yourself over 100 calories. Sometimes people mistake hunger for thirst, so staying hydrated is a good idea in general, but also when you are trying to lose weight. What's not clear to me is whether the sweetness of the flavor pack stimulates my hunger & causes me to eat when I otherwise wouldn't. But if it doesn't do that to you, then no, it's not cheating or a trigger that leads to cheating.0

Thank your for your kind comment. I wasn’t offended. But I hear these boards are supportive but honestly, I haven’t seen much of that yet and I’ve been on almost a year. I was on before that but it was about 5 years ago so that doesn’t count to me lol
Anyway... you’re a sweetheart for trying to straighten my misunderstanding you, out ❤️2 -

But why is that significant at all? Nobody cares how much water I drink, it's a statement with absolutely zero material value. It's like eating a hot dog and saying "I ate a sandwich for lunch" to someone who doesn't agree that a hot dog is a sandwich.
For the purposes of your body, it is water.2
