just a funny thought about teens and cameras today

So I have noticed this new trend in photo taking, well its not that new but I never did it when I was a teen or early twenties. Why do girls now take photos with the camera pointing down and them looking up usually with their lips poking out. My cousin does this a lot of her facebook and she looks really ridiculous. I understand that its a good angle to make you look skinnier, but thinner girls do this too. I am just curious why they do and how this trend started?

They call it "duck face" and it is now widely mocked as ridiculous, a la Jersey Shore LMAO!!

Young girls do what other young girls do.
I blame alternative music not being alternative anymore.0 -
According to OKCupid's data analysis, the "myspace angle" is dumb looking but extremely effective in pulling in interested suitors:

I was JUST about to say the same thing.0 -
I call this "fatty angle" - I've been guilty of it myself! :laugh:0

It's so funny you posted this, I was thinking the very same thing today. I've even seen older women do it. Seems a little silly to me, but oh well, it's just funny to see it so often.0

There is also a new tread of crinkling your forehead in the position you are talking about.
LOL HOW UNFLATTERING.
It makes you look 10 times older, and like your surprised you just threw up or something : P.0 -
I think most girls feel that angle makes them look prettier and maybe not so chubby and unsymmetrical in the face. Sticking your lips out accentuates the cheekbones and thins the cheek and jawline. Just my guess! I did those awkard angles when I was in high school.0

The original term is "myspace picture" because that's how it all started! I think girls just figured out quickly that was the most flattering angle. I must admit, I do it sometimes too, haha.0

Illusion of big eyes, prominent cheekbones, general slimness, heart shaped faces, and big lips. Too bad it doesn't work0

I love that there's a name for it. Now people will stop. Mullets were all the rage until people started calling them mullets. Same with tramp stamps.0

Love duckface!!!!0

i cant stand this either!! and i especially hate when girls take pictures of themselves in the mirror with their cell phones.. but they point the phone at the mirror and then stare at themselves in the phone screen instead of smiling into the mirror at the camera! it doesnt make sense0
-
Aaahh, the dreaded DUCKFACE. It screams out "I'm stupid!!!" Or *uckface for some guys.

I have done the angle, just not the silly pout haha.0
-
LMFAO!!! I dont know, but every kid i know does that.. some adults too!! The whole pokin the lips thing out irritates the **** out of me.. I want to PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE!!! Its stupidddddddddddddddd LOL0

Ahhhh the dreaded duck face. Soooooo annoying and un attractive!
It is hilarious when someone takes a gazillion pictures of themselves from ONE angle (the aforementioned camera overhead pointing down from one side angle) We get it, that is your good side. *eyeroll*
I wonder if the girls that go looking for love on the internet and do this realize that eventually dudes are going to see the big nose, not so big eyes and whatever else they are trying to hide by the "good" angle?
~Edited to put good in quotations. The internet seriously needs a sarcasm font!0 -
lol @ this 5 year old trend being "new"0

It's the easiest way to take a photo of yourself and with digital cameras which we didn't have as kids, you can take a dozen of these until you look like your best self.
As a child/teen those 24 photos on my $5 roll of film + $6 developing was precious so I only tried this self-shot attempt maybe 5 times in my entire adolescence and it was usually a pic of me and a bf who happens to now be my hubby so they were soooooo worth it
EDIT: Ok I just googled "duck-face" and wow, that is f-ked up! I just thought you were talking about the angle but the lip thing, weird.... I must continue to google, i mean research0 -
it's not only girls
guys do it too.

I'm so out of it. I thought it was called trout pout, and that they were trying to look like the Olsen twins.
