Please help! Sticking to diet, but I'm getting fatter!

I have been sticking to my diet pretty well, and for a while I was going in the direction I wanted. But the past two weeks, my stomach has been very bloated and upset. And now, there is an extra layer of fat around my stomach, which was the reason I started dieting in the first place. Last week my waist was a half and inch smaller than it is today, and I don't understand.
Please help, this is really upsetting me

Is it that time of month? Have you been eating anything that tends to make you bloated?0

No, what I eat is my business. I already explained myself, and I just want some advice based on what I already said.0 -

I'm 18, not having sex, and on birth control. I also am a paranoid weirdo so I did, and it's negative LOL0 -

I have been eating the same foods I have eaten all year. I rarely ever change it up. No, I'm on birth control so 'TOM' is really 'TOY'0 -
Could be TOM, sodium intake etc.0

Without knowing how much carbs or fiber you're eating, or how much water you're drinking, there's no way for anyone to actually offer intelligent advice. Good luck in your efforts.0 -
How much do you exercise? I suggest cardio for 5 times a week, 40 min per session.0

Then the amount of help youre going to get will be pretty limited...0 -
Upped sodium could cause bloating, drinking lots of water when your body isnt used to flushing it yet can cause bloating, chewing gum or eating gassy foods can cause bloating. The last few days I was freaking out because I felt my gut had grown but I was just retaining water on my period, it flattened back down in a few days. That's the only things I can suggest without knowing what you're eating. Good luck!0

know you don't want to hear this *again* but it's hard to assess without knowing what you are eating or without having more info. how much do you exercise? what is your average daily calorie intake?0

But it's been everyday for about two weeks now and I don't get my period. I'm really really really freaked out that I'm gaining weight and it's something I can't control0 -
What birth control are you on? I have had trouble with mine. It made me gain and I couldn't lose while on it. Since changing I am slowly losing.0

Go see a doctor. If you were losing weight before and now have these new issues (which taken all together can be a sign of another underlying illness) you should have it checked out. I might very well be nothing more than indegestion/gastric reflux or your bodys way of reacting to the new diet, but you won't know unless you have it checked out.0

Unless you are on a certain medication or have a certain condition that prevents weight loss (or causes weight gain) it is impossible to gain weight unless you are eating too much. If you are sticking to a deficit but also aren't in starvation mode, you will lose weight, it's the law of thermodynamics. either you're eating more than you realize, or eating poorly, or your body is just bloating and reacting weird to something.0

People could just ask me if I'm eating a lot of certain things. I am not comfortable with people looking at my food diary, I have my reasons, and people should respect them. I'm not being rude, but I'm not discussing this. You don't know why I don't want people to look at it, so please don't assume its for a stupid reason.0 -

I've been on Depoprovera for almost four years now, and I know it's supposed to make you gain weight- but it hasn't done anything to me in four years so I really don't think that's the cause0 -
do you have a gluten or lactose allergy? even if it never bothered you in the past, it could be causing symptoms now.0
-
There have actually been studies proving that birth control does not make you gain weight. When women gain weight on birth control, they often blame it on the medication because it is listed as a possible side effect - but that is the pharmaceutical company legally covering their *kitten* with every possible side effect ever.
edit: here is the source, there are multiple. but i guess technically they did not test all birth control, just combination. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/188436520 -

I haven't been exercising lately, but I am starting it up tomorrow as soon as my schedule evens out again (I just started college)
My average intake ranges from around 1100-1400, because I feel that one stagnant intake only causes plateau's. And yes I know 1100 is low, but I make it so it evens out to a healthy number of calories at the end of the week.
BUT I was losing weight on this EXACT diet, with no exercise, and the EXACT foods I'm eating now... I'm so confused. I have even been taking bloating medication, and it does NOTHING.0 -
Since you won't open your diary, we can't really help much. We can only guess. Maybe you're eating too much. Maybe not enough. Maybe sodium is too high, or fiber is too low. Maybe you're not eating enough fruits and veggies, or maybe not getting enough protein. Maybe you need to change your exercise or drink more water. It's really impossible to guess out of the dozens of reasons for your gain.0

Dumb question time- What is gluten? Like what foods is it in? I have been wondering if it is some type of allergy that just recently flared up...
for instance, last summer I randomly became lactose intolerant, and then this past December suddenly I could drink/eat dairy like normal again.0 -
I say take your food diary, print it out, and make an appointment with your primary dr or even your obgyn. Hopefully you are comfortable enough to share it with him or her. If you honestly know you are eatting the right foods you need to have your thyriod checked along with a few other things that the doctor can suggest. There are some quick tests that can put your mid at ease that everything is ok and that you might just need to up certain areas of your diet or exercise plan.0

I have not gained, I have only gained inches around my stomach. No pounds, and no inches anywhere else.
My sodium is fine, my fiber intake is good, and I drink the recommended amount of water daily. I admittedly do not eat enough fruits or veggies, but that's because I live with my parents and three little children- and they don't buy much of it. And if they do, my little brothers gobble it up before I even get any.
I do not exercise right now, but I am starting a regimen tomorrow. My schedule has been all topsy-turvy lately due to school starting.
My protein sucks, but it always has. I have lost 30lbs on this journey so far, and my protein intake has ALWAYS sucked. In fact I was a vegetarian for a while.0 -
If you're not getting enough sleep or are under a lot of stress, it could be affecting your weight. If I'm exhausted for a few days or am under a lot of pressure pounds tend to creep on even if I'm eating perfectly.0

I was on depo for 9 months and gained 5kgs on to my stomach. I never changed anything while on it but I still gained and could not lose a thing. I know people will say that it is what you eat but it isn't. Some people react to it. You can even react when coming off. I was fine for the first 6 months and then suddenly the weight packed on. A bit of it was water weight but it made me really bloated. I've since changed and feel so much better and I can actually lose weight.
If nothing else works I'd suggest giving it a try.
Also it mucks up your thyroid which could be your problem.
I must also say that I had stayed at a stable weight for years before I started depo.0 -
Here, this is today's nutritional information:

Calories Carbs Fat Protein Sodium
this is about average.0 -
If you are really that worried and are pretty certain you are not eating more calories than you are burning, go to a doctor. That's the only real good piece of advice you can get since you have said you have already ruled out all of the other guesses everyone else has suggested.0
