. . . carried the weight on your back, all day, that you've lost in your current journey.

So, I can lift a 5 gallon bottle of water to put it on the water cooler, but I sure as hell can't do it ~gracefully~. I always wait until no one's around before I do so.

One of those suckers weighs about 40 pounds, which is the amount I lost. That would suck to carry around, lol.

I lost almost double that. There is no way I could even move. It is scary when you put it into context like that, thinking about that extra weight you were lugging around.

I think about that every time I buy a 50 lb. sack of dog food. I think, “I used to carry 1 1/2 of those around all day.”

Pretty much like I do at the end of every day ... because I do.

I have a question. If you guys attempt to do this, does it really feel the same way it did as when you had that weight on you as fat? I have always wondered this. If someone who is lighter carries 50lbs weights around, is that exactly how it feels to be 50lbs heavier?

For people who have lost a lot of weight, have you tried doing this and did it really feel the same way you felt?

I don't really see how it could feel the same. As fat, that weight was distributed around me; mostly on the thighs, bum and stomach. Having the whole lot sitting on my back would be a completely different strain.

I buy 50 pound bags of sunflower seeds for bird feeding. I lost 140 pounds. It’s a lot different carrying it around in your arms (on your back) than it being distributed throughout your body, but definitely affects stress on your body. It’s amazing to realize what the human body can cope with. Losing excess weight certainly improved movement.

12 kilos. Apparently thats like 4,444 ping pong balls. I'd probably be pretty sore by the end of the day.

I have sort of done this while cycling ...

Cycled up a hill while at my heaviest.
Cycled up a hill at different times when I lost weight.
Cycled up a hill with panniers filled with stuff adding up to the weight I lost.

With the weight ... either on me or in my panniers ... climbing is difficult.
Without the weight ... climbing is a lot easier.

I would buckle. My muscles aren't as strong as they used to be when I spent 24/7 carrying the weight.

On my back 40lbs would be tough all day. It would be like having one of my kids on my back, but with less squirming and tantruming so that would be a plus.

Mind you carrying it in pregnancy wasn't that great either luckily it wasn't for very long.

I don't find it scary. I don't usually watch the biggest loser, but I have seen a few episodes here and there. One of the episodes I watched was how they wore weighted suits and raced, then got emotional about all the weight they used to carry. I didn't feel bad for them, I wished I could tell them how amazing their body is to be able to adapt to carrying all that weight, and here they are hating on it and on their past self instead of being in awe.

    ETA:
Unrelated, but I also don't like when TV programmes and documentaries show people shoving food in their mouths as if it's a negative thing, and it usually shows a fat person doing it because that makes it even more unappealing. So much hate and guilt around food and weight it's sad.

Seriously, it's an amazing feat that we can carry so much extra weight and carry on almost as normal. I had minor knee pain prior to losing, but that was it.

I also hate the "eating is gross" mindset. Every once in a while you get someone on here who genuinely thought they need to net 0 calories in order to lose weight, as if calories are purely a thing designed to make us fat and have nothing to do with being the building blocks of our bodies. Calories are amazing, many of us just get too much.

I thought about this the other day when I was carrying in over 70 pounds of cat litter (what can I say? I have 3 cats and it was on sale). I carried both pails in and then realized I lost 100 pounds ON TOP of what I was carrying in.

I have no idea how my body carried around 320 pounds. I am thankful I lost the weight, because if not, I'd be dead.
