I have been with MFP since May/June timeframe....love it!!! I do have a simple question that i have yet to figure out on my own. How is everyone posting their 'goals' or 'minigoals' that show up on posts. I would love to set myself some mini goals instead of just saying i want to lose 50 pounds. Please help the lost....LOL

Hello, Just started and excited. I hope communicating with someone will help. Need to lose alot of weight. But just working on one day at a time.0

See those words in medium blue above this topic (starting with Home on the left)? If you clic on Signature, it allows you to type in some text regarding whatever you want on goals. This is also where your ticker is if you set that up to show up on your message board posts.0

Go to signature and type them there. It will show up every time you post on the message board.0

Hi, my name is Martha and I am excited to be a member of fitness pal. I want to lose weight.:smooched:0

I've been using My Fitness Pal for a few months. Slow but steady weight loss. I met with a dietician who set my calorie goals. My problem is meeting them. She wants me to consume 1200-1500 calories per day. How do I attain that without going over on fat, carbs, protein? I usually never hit 1100. Help0

@allthatjas515, you'd probably get more answers if you created your own thread, rather than piggybacking on this old one from 2011 that has a different topic.
To answer your question: It's fine to go over any of your fat, protein, or macro goals, when staying around your calorie goal. Eating way under calorie goal, as you imply, can be a not-sustainable plan.
Calories are the key thing for weight management. Good nutrition (including macros) may indirectly help by affecting your energy level or appetite. But "pretty close on average" is fine for macro goals, health-wise.
Protein and fats are "essential nutrients", in the sense that our bodies can't manufacture important parts of them out of any other intake. Therefore, it's good not to be persistently low day in and day out on either of those. Over on one or the other or both, or under but close, or a truly rare day that's way under one or the other: Not a huge big deal.
Carbs aren't an "essential nutrient" in that sense, so more flexible. You'll notice whether carbs affect your energy level or appetite, and can adjust accordingly.
In theory, meeting your macro grams exactly would deliver your full calorie goal exactly, but food labels (and the food database here) can have some variations that make that not happen in your daily diary in practice. It's no big deal if it's not exact.
For weight loss, focus on calories. For nutrition, just try to get close (over/under) on protein and fats. That should work out fine. There's no need to stress over minor differences.
Best wishes!
