Jell-o is a vegetable!

I had to share this with you all...
My bf just texted me and he is at a Meat & 3. (For those of you not from/in the south, a Meat & 3 is a standard country-ish restaurant in the south where you order a "meat", like country fried steak or pot roast, and 3 sides - aka "vegetables")
In their vegetable list: Jell-o!
So if any of you are wondering how to get more veggies in your diet, eat Jell-o!
PS - If I can figure out how to get his texted image online, I'll share the menu pic with ya.

Oh brother................
Hey girl, how have you been???
Why don't they just post it as sides????0 -
I hope you are joking, right?
"What exactly is Jell-O made from? (http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/question557.htm)
Jell-O consists of four basic ingredients:
gelatin
water
sugar or artificial sweetener and artificial flavors
food coloring

It's seriously on their menu under vegetables. I'm trying to get the image online right now.0
-
It should really be in the meat category since gelatin is a protein derivative.0

I was just going to say that... since gelatin is animal derived it's definitely a meat :laugh:0 -
Most southern resturants list mac and cheese under veggies too. FYI!! LOL0

Here's the pic! I hope I do this right:

Yeah they do! I never heard of Jell-o being one!
And I agree, ivyjbres!0 -

Ha ha
They have apples, beans (several kinds), jello, mac and cheese and corn all listed as veggies and they are not veggies either...........Well, neither are tomatoes, but I can let that one slide. :laugh:0 -
wow............0
-
I see they have baked apples listed under their vegetables as well! LOL!0
-
And people wonder why the south is a fatter part of the country!
"Yep, I eat me vegetables. Got me some mac n cheese, some fried apples, and jell-o. I think I like this doctor's recommendation of more vegetables!"
Apparently I've been doing it wrong....0 -
so, your saying its not a vegetable? Crap. I have to redo my pre-log.....0

My wife agrees with you Bry!0 -
When I log my sf jello it says 10 calories and 3 protein.
However, I never tried the green kind.0 -
That menu should clearly have those things labeled as sides ...not vegetables.0
-
Now wait a sec! The menu clearly states these are "Grand Southern Style Vegetables" not "Technically Accurate Vegetables" or "Sides Dishes Having Nothing to do With Vegetables"
There is no mixup as far as I can tell.
Take a look online:
You've got Baked Apple Slices, Baked Papaya, Boiled Peanuts, and Stewed Kumquats and Prunes
-http://www.yummly.com/recipes/southern-living-vegetable
Mac & cheese, pinto beans, chicken, and chocolate chip cookies!
:bigsmile:0 -
I see why Jell-O is a vegetable. Gelatin is made from boiling bones, cartilage, and skin from animals. (http://www.fitsugar.com/Gelatin-Made-Out-What-84889) Sugar comes from a sugar cane, which is a plant. In that case, most candies will qualify as vegetables! JK.0

ha ha, that is what I said, but your dealing with the South....................... (no offense to anyone from the south)0
