A few years ago i lost weight, i tried really hard and restricted my calorie intake and exercise and slowly i lost weight.

Unfortunately over the past two years i have gained all the of the weight that i lost (which is near four stone - 56lbs)

I thought the weight gain was due to greed and being inactive but i started to feel tired and my periods had become very irregular so i went to see my GP. I have had some blood tests and a abdominal and trans vaginal ultrasound and i receive the results on Monday morning.

I am wondering if i may have PCOS, is any support available for weight loss if i do have this?

Thanks for reading this.

There are quite a few members here who have PCOS and have lost weight successfully. It is a much more common health condition than people think, so if that is your diagnosis, know that you are far from alone.

The basics of weight loss on PCOS is the same for weight loss for everyone else: eat less calories than you burn. Women with PCOS sometimes can have slower metabolisms than non-PCOS women, so you may have a lower "calories out" than a calculator like MFP would assume for your height, weight, and age, so you may need to adjust your calorie goals accordingly.

If you are diagnosed with PCOS, I'd ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietician who specializes in PCOS. They will be able to work with you to create an eating plan for both weight loss and symptom management. Either they or the doctor should be able to do some sort of metabolic testing for you to get a better idea of what your actual calories out are.

Some with PCOS can find a lower carb, low GI diet to be beneficial, so your dietician may recommend some form of that to start out with.

The important thing to know is that you can have PCOS and still lose weight. My wife has PCOS and felt like she would never be able to lose the weight that has slowly crept up the last several years. She went and saw a dietician who helped start her on track and the combination of eating better and starting some exercise has helped her lose 15 pounds so far. It most certainly can be done.
