So, the hubby and I are going to have a picnic in the field next to our house this weekend. I'm trying to think of easy side dishes and things to make for the picnic, but I'm just drawing mind blanks. I'm setting up a small table and bringing lawn chairs, and our little 18 inch propane grill to make everything on. I'm also bringing a cooler with his favorite drink (JD Downhome punch),and some water with crystal lights in them for me.
So far, I'm having:
ham and provolone sandwiches with hot sauce, wrapped in foil, and grilled.
shrimp skewers (marinated in garlic and cilantro)
Blueberry Cream Cheese mini pies
I want to make some more things, but I'm not sure what. For once, I can't think about food! LOL Does anyone have any easy to do ideas?
Thanks so much!!!!

Lovely idea!
A German potato salad is nice, and lighter than the mayo-based versions. A little bacon goes a long way!
Last month I skewered bits of pork (trimmed of fat) and halfway through grilling brushed them with a mixture of orange marmalade and rosemary (salt & pepper to taste). The bit of marmalade caramelized nicely on the grill! Hmmm - that won't go well with your shrimp skewers... but maybe for another time.
Maybe something a little hot and a little sweet with cilantro? This watermelon salsa sounds strange, but it's wonderful (honest!) http://allrecipes.com/recipe/watermelon-fire-and-ice-salsa/detail.aspx
Veggies in a grill basket or foil pack are always a nice healthy option. Zucchini, mushrooms, red onion and sweet peppers. (Yum!!!)
Have a wonderful picnic, whatever you choose to do!0 -
What about a lovely salad? I am thinking something like tomatoes, corn, black beans, cliantro, onion, serranos, lime juice and a bit of olive oil. Nice and summery. Maybe some watermelon? What about a nice frozen drink. Something fun like a frozen melon mojito w/ or w/out the rum. Sounds fun!0
