Fasting Mimicking Diet

Is this where you make fun of people by mimicking their voices or their mannerisms, then you burn a lot of calories because you have to run away before they hit you?10

So the main goal for me is longevity/detox/health boost from within, if you read about the Longo approach you may look at it from a different perspective. It is a specific combination of all 3 macros and low calories for 5 days to repair/generate new cells in your body and to be repeated once a month for 3 or 4 months in a row. The kit is SUPER expensive, it is an easier way to hit the macros and calories allowed, supplementing with nutrients to make the transition smoother without having to think about it but I would not buy it. I have done it on my own and felt great after 5 days. I like very much the science behind it and losing a few pounds is a plus. Let's' say you are on your last 5lbs to hit goal and it seems super difficult to lose this will help you do that. It did it for me. I just wanted to hear from people who did it and how they felt.10

They send a box with powdered soups and/or "nutrition" (nut) bars and small packets of olives, tea, and a "supplement" and you have to eat ONLY that for five days? It's powdered soup, tiny packets of oil and some sort of bars (?) UP TO 800 calories on Day Three...uh, no.
Ha.
It's Longo. I should have known.
They say, "We've taken the thinking out of it for you."
Yeah. Ya think?
I see a whole bunch of problems with this diet, but wanted to comment on the bolded above.
OP - if you don't have to think, then how are you going to maintain. I know that most people assume they will maintain, but only a small % actually do.
Learn good habits. Permanent changes come from figuring out what needs to change.

I have been maintaining for years! Read the science behind it to learn more. The kit is just an expensive tool to use or simply DYI following the chart given to hit the macros and nutrients required. My skin was glowing, my tummy was super flat after following this approach and I felt great.
This is not mainly for weight loss, the science behind it is amazing to me.4 -

Detox what exactly? I worry about any diet that talks about detoxing or removing toxins - they never say what exactly what is being lost. I get the impression this is because there is nothing being detoxed, but that people have this vitalist idea of health - that while they'll scoff at bloodletting, they still think there are generic good and bad humors in the body that need to be removed to make "health stuff" happen. Worst still, a lot of people seem to feel on some level the toxin stuff that is keeping out their health is what is causing their weight to be above what they want. But health is more a consequence of weight than a cause of weight.18 -

Your tummy is flat due to genetics, not supplements or food choices.
I can guarantee the "science" behind this is junk science, or just as bad my results were x, y, and z......I know, I know "I have to read the book".............if this is truely a magic bullet, people wouldn't have to ask what this is, because they would already know.
If you've been maintaining for years, why are you here? Are you trying to pump up sales.....do you get a commission?5 -

Uh...your body is generating new cells all the time. That's, what it's designed to do. That's one of the many reasons you're supposed to feed yourself adequately, so your body can do all its' processes like making new cells. Does Longo explain that science in this waste of money called a book?
Also does he explain what exactly your body is detoxing from that your liver and kidneys and lungs aren't already getting rid of? Is it supposed to be able to mimic chelation therapy or dialysis or something?4 -

Read about Autophagy, damaged cells repair and generation through FMD. Detoxing is not the right term I used, it is damaged cells repair. I posted this because I liked the effects after I did my DIY FMD, I wanted to share my experience , see who did it and their thoughts, and definitely enjoyed reading his scientific approach. I did not need to buy anything. All the info are online and this was very helpful as it guided me what to do and it was done for free.10 -

Anybody trying to sell you a diet that is said to help the process of autophagy is a quack trying to make a buck. I'm going to take a guess and say you dont really know what autophagy is. This is the process your cells go through to devour un-needed parts of themselves in order to recycle the nutrients needed to repair themselves in STARVATION CIRCUMSTANCES (ie, prolonged fasting). This is not something you want to do to yourself. Your body does a great job all on it's own of repairing itself as long as its fed properly. Starving yourself to the point of autophagy means keeping yourself from ingesting the essential nutrients your body actually needs!
(Now, this is the understanding I have come across from my bit of research. If this is wrong, may another forum member let me know, and I shall do more research)
The doctor spouting this "diet" (Dr Longo) is going off of studies done on yeast and mice... both of which are not people. This guy is selling a book to make money. He refers to studies from the 80s. If these studies really showed some ground breaking strategy to improving human health, why are we only hearing about it now nearly 40 years later from a guy selling a book? He uses a lot of large, impressive words that normal people may not really understand like "metabolic biomarkers, oligodendrocyte precursors, lymphocytes, monocytes, and granulocytes". I'm surprised he hasnt used the words "detoxing" and "quantum fluctuations".
This is a natural body process that uses sciency sounding words to sell a diet to people, plain and simple.12
