It is a specific combination of all 3 macros and low calories for 5 days to repair/generate new cells in your body and to be repeated once a month for 3 or 4 months in a row. The kit is SUPER expensive, it is an easier way to hit the macros and calories allowed, supplementing with nutrients to make the transition smoother without having to think about it but I would not buy it. I have done it on my own and felt great after 5 days. I like very much the science behind it and losing a few pounds is a plus. Let's' say you are on your last 5lbs to hit goal and it seems super difficult to lose this will help you do that. It did it for me. I just wanted to hear from people who did it and how they felt.
Uh...your body is generating new cells all the time. That's, what it's designed to do. That's one of the many reasons you're supposed to feed yourself adequately, so your body can do all its' processes like making new cells. Does Longo explain that science in this waste of money called a book?
Also does he explain what exactly your body is detoxing from that your liver and kidneys and lungs aren't already getting rid of? Is it supposed to be able to mimic chelation therapy or dialysis or something?
Read about Autophagy, damaged cells repair and generation through FMD. Detoxing is not the right term I used, it is damaged cells repair. I posted this because I liked the effects after I did my DIY FMD, I wanted to share my experience , see who did it and their thoughts, and definitely enjoyed reading his scientific approach. I did not need to buy anything. All the info are online and this was very helpful as it guided me what to do and it was done for free.
Anybody trying to sell you a diet that is said to help the process of autophagy is a quack trying to make a buck. I'm going to take a guess and say you dont really know what autophagy is. This is the process your cells go through to devour un-needed parts of themselves in order to recycle the nutrients needed to repair themselves in STARVATION CIRCUMSTANCES (ie, prolonged fasting). This is not something you want to do to yourself. Your body does a great job all on it's own of repairing itself as long as its fed properly. Starving yourself to the point of autophagy means keeping yourself from ingesting the essential nutrients your body actually needs!
(Now, this is the understanding I have come across from my bit of research. If this is wrong, may another forum member let me know, and I shall do more research)
The doctor spouting this "diet" (Dr Longo) is going off of studies done on yeast and mice... both of which are not people. This guy is selling a book to make money. He refers to studies from the 80s. If these studies really showed some ground breaking strategy to improving human health, why are we only hearing about it now nearly 40 years later from a guy selling a book? He uses a lot of large, impressive words that normal people may not really understand like "metabolic biomarkers, oligodendrocyte precursors, lymphocytes, monocytes, and granulocytes". I'm surprised he hasnt used the words "detoxing" and "quantum fluctuations".
This is a natural body process that uses sciency sounding words to sell a diet to people, plain and simple.12
