Water replacement

Anyone have information on how much fluid you should replace during workouts? I weight before and after and average about 2 lbs. of fluid loss during a workout. I typically don't drink much (if at all) during a workout, but as I stretch the time frames of the sessions, I'm thinking that I need to replace some fluid during the workout. I've seen a chart somewhere on calculating how much fluid you should take in during a workout based upon before and after weight.

I've found for me about a liter of water and I was losing about 2 pounds during each session too - made a big difference in my energy too!!!!
  • I'm currently reading a book about getting to 'racing weight' for triathlons, from this and from one of my friends who is a GP specialising in sports medicine, the word is that you drink to thirst. You can over hydrate which can slow you down and make yo feel bloated - and obviously underhydrating is not good either. On an icky note - you should be aiming for pale yellow wee! ((Obviously if you've had a heavy workout, it might be a bit more concentrated though).
If you're planning a marathon purge, you might think about ensuring you're well hydrated the day before.

    Hope this helps.

It was a few years ago, but I heard 8 oz for every 30 minutes of workout.
If you're losing 2 lbs in fluids, that about a quart of water. Don't try to drink it all at once, your body can't absorb it. But invest in a reusable water bottle you can keep with you when exercising and drink small sips regularly as you go. Then up your water intake through the rest of the day, as well.
