Hi, I am Julie. I am 56 yr old. I have been struggling with weight my entire life.

I got to goal twice on Weight Watchers and once on Nutrisystem. Once I hit goal, I started back up.

I just finished a year on Weight Watchers. This time it didn't work as well. I lost 17 lbs in a year.

I am coming back to mfp with some fasting and eating healthy. I normally allow myself a cheat meal a week.

My high weight was 315. I lost 100 lbs by eating smaller portions, but that stopped working and that's when I went back to Weight Watchers. I current weigh 218.

I would love some Friends on this journey. That's one thing I miss about Weight Watchers, they have a great app for members to connect with each other.

    Hi Julie. My name is Maria. I just started on this today. I also started Zumba today. So much in one day. I am determined in losing these extra pounds. I did it before back in 2012 but then my life changed. So much happened. But I am back on track.

    Hi Maria and Jen,
    Zumba is fun. I have to be on the side so I don't run into anyone and can go at my pace. I was hiking, yoga and excerise class. I have to get back into them. I am going to a dance tomorrow. I do that at my own pace too. I dance like a two year old, but I love to dance.

    Thanks for joining us. One of my replies isn't show up. It was my coffee recipe.

    I wonder if I am getting the right Nurtrition. Today I had a times of dizziness. I ate yogurt, apricots, chia seeds and gelatin for breakfast and dinner.

    I was hungry this morning. I asked my Husband if he wanted to go on a hike. He isn't up to it. This might be the last of the cool weather in the Phoenix area.

    It is possible to do this in your 50s! And beyond. I got to my goal almost 8 years ago and I'm 65 now. I have stayed pretty close to goal, but I find that groups and/or challenges where you really get to know your teammates, get inspired even when you're struggling, and you have some accountability and commitment to a team really help.

    The one that has done a LOT for me to stay the course is the Fat2Fit Challenge. June registrations are open now, and if you really give it a go you will find a terrific group of people from all walks of life, all ages, many countries, all weights. Give it a month and see if getting to know your team, a little friendly competition, and lots of inspiration do it for you!

    Hi, my name is Christina and started MFP again since I just recently started Keto, no sugar except pyure sugar substitute, no grains, except for a Keto low carb recipe which used vital gluten, oat flour and yeast in the recipe in a bread machine... omg I had 1 slice with my breakfast of bacon and 2 eggs... delish ... using only avocado, olive, coconut oil and coconut flour/milk/cream keeping my fats high, carbs as low as possible going for less than 20 1 proteins at my meal time... supposed to use ratio of 3 veg servings to 1 protein keeping fats at about 70% for weight loss ... 😆 We will see how this works... Want to lose around 50lbs by next year... Will keep y’all posted on my progress

    Hi All,
    I hear positive and negative posts from doctors about keto. I struggle giving up sugar. My popcorn recipe is salt, butter spray, tsp sugar and netmeg. I eat it a few times a week. I also like a treat a couple times a week ie a cookie, piece of candy. I don't eat bread, pasta, rice or potatoes normally.

    I feel I ate pretty healthy this week. I will weigh in tomorrow. How was your week?

    Hi!! My name is Mary, Just rejoined MFP, After losing weight, went off, about 2 years ago, After breaking my leg and knee, 2 surgeries and 3 plates and 21 pins a year ago, It is still hard for me to get around very well... After 25 years of owning and operating a restaurant, my injury has put me into full retirement earlier than i'd planned... Lack of exercise, poor eating habits have caused me to put weight back on. Looking for supportive friends...

    Welcome New Friends and other Friends,
    I lost .5 lbs. I drank my large coffee before I remember to weigh in.

    Man, did I have the munchies last night. I had a Tootsie Pop and an apple.

    From observation, I was able to get to my old baseline weight, but have struggled for a couple years getting lower. What I can do is keep trying to eat healthy and excerise. I haven't been excerising like was. In January, I started having sleep problems which lead me into sleeping in later which changed my excerise time. I really need to get back to excerise. I was doing yoga and excerise class at my clinic on Monday and Thursday and I was hiking if weather wasn't too hot on Wednesday.

    Hi, My name is Judy and I will be 66 in a few weeks. I am so tired of being overweight. I am a terrible stress eater and I also use food as a reward. I'm trying to rethink these bad habits, but it's hard. I signed up for MFP today. I will track my calories and start exercising. I normally attend a yoga class twice weekly, but right now I am on hiatus until I get a few medial problems solved. My current weight is the most I have ever weighted in my life. I am a five year breast cancer survivor. I hope to find some supportive friends on MFP. I'll cheer you along too.

    Losing 17 pounds in a year is quite an accomplishment! Congratulations!
    I too struggle to lose weight. WHY is it so easy to gain but so hard to lose?
    In addition to a controlled diet, every bit of physical activity helps, no matter how small. For example, if you drive to a store, park as far from the entrance as possible.
    I have also found that a bottle of water and a serving of fruit can alleviate hunger pangs for some time.

    I am new member. This seems like a good tool. Like you, ive yoyoed with my weight. I need better health , same as most people high blood pressure, chloesterol knee and back paim

    Hi, Julie! I'm Christine. I am 55. I made life changes as a result of being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I also decided that I was going to eat and I was not going to be hungry. so I used Google A LOT! I found some great websites with some delicious, low calorie, low carb recipes and food suggestions. I found this site which helps me keep track.

    I love to cook and all these recipes and food choices just give me a chance to experiment with new ingredients and flavors. And I can stay within my nutrition goals and still keep my sugar low and lose weight. And I'm not hungry. Last night for dinner I made Chicken Marsala and roasted vegetables (which included red potatoes.) My total caloric intake was 342, 13g carbs, 13g fat, 18g protein, and 4g fiber. I ate 3 meals and 2 snacks yesterday and still had 58 calories left to use on a 1366 calorie a day diet. There are days I go over, but most days I stay under my limits.

    I have started walking about a mile a day. I bought a treadmill for those days its messy or too hot to walk outside.

    What started out as a health problem soon became an opportunity. While I cannot say I am glad I have Diabetes, I can say that I'm glad I was diagnosed before I had more serious health problems. I can also say that I'm starting to like the way I look again. I still don't like to walk by a mirror unclothed, but I can tell a difference in my clothes and have even had to retire a few items and purchase a few smaller sized items.

    I drank 4 or 5 soft drinks a day, never went a day without a lot of something sweet and unhealthy, and had a diet of mostly starch and carbs. In 5 months I have lost 35 pounds and not been hungry. Do I miss sweets? No. Last night I had a Greek Yogurt Chocolate Mousse with whipped cream and mixed fruit with 130 calories, 17 carbs, and 4g of fat. I found a great recipe for Cinnamon Roll Smoothie that tastes like heaven in a glass and only has 145 calories, 2g carbs, 27g protein, and 3g fat. Both satisfy my sweet tooth and are a long ways away from a Reese Cup (220 cal, 24g carbs, 5g protein, and 13g of fat.

    Hi everyone, I'm Sue in Hawaii. I'm 67 and just getting back into being fit. I've proven to myself that I can gain weight and outgrow my jeans. L0L! So time to prove that I can get back into them too! I need to get fit by September to run my border collie in an agility trial. Yesterday I went to Salvation Army and bought some fun active wear. Now I have to wear them and get moving. Off to the Y tomorrow for my first class in months. Hoping to stay inspired by all of you on this journey towards fitness. Nice having fitness goal buddies!     I'm 58, lost nearly 30 lbs here 4 years ago and am sticking around to maintain. At the moment, maintaining amounts to re-losing the last 10 lbs, but I'll get there! I'm always happy to add a few more engaged, interactive and supportive friends.

    It seems that a lot of are on the same path. Thanks for reaching out. I do so much better when I excerise with others. I think it's the same for eating healthy.

    I was going to fast today, but hunger pains had me eat yogurt, fruit, chia seeds and gelatin. I was at a dance last Friday and was talking to a nutritionist. I told her that I was going to fast. She didn't think that was a good idea. She was ok with intermittent fasting.

    I miss the Weight Watchers free foods. I am a big eater. I am ok if I go over 1200 calories if I am eating healthy.

    Hi all 👋🏻 I’m 56 and been doing this a while now. Most people call it a journey, I prefer roller coaster because, for me, it’s more accurate. In 2017 my doc told me my cholesterol was too high, she refused to change my meds, said I needed to make the change, not her. I let that sink in, marinate so to speak for a few weeks, then decided she was right. I buckled down, brought my cholesterol into an ‘excellent’ range and lost 43lbs (175lbs to 132lbs). I got cocky, or stupid, or just tired from always pushing so hard and I quit MFP for a few months. My weight? Well that shot back up to 168lb in no time (funny how easily it does that lol). Cholesterol? Yeah that shot back up too.

    In February I came back to MFP, but I made a conscious decision to do things differently this time. You see, I want this to be something I can manage the rest of my life, not just long enough to lose weight. Now? I eat what I want when I want. 95% of the time it’s healthy. When it’s not healthy, that’s cool, because you only live once and I intend to slid into my grave sideways knowing I enjoyed life as best I could 😁

    I guess the reason I’m posting is because so often we get so caught up in all this madness that we forget to live. I’ve read through all the posts here and I applaud each and every one of you for your dedication, hard work and efforts to better yourself. Y’all please remember to take care of yourself in the process. It’s paramount to living a healthy life and having fun along the way. We all had bad days. I hope you all know - It’s ok to not be ok - it’s ok to have a bad day - it’s ok because we can make a point to do better tomorrow. Don’t stop until you make yourself proud ❤️

    Hi All,
    I am so hungry. I ate a banana and a Kind bar. I am drinking my coffee hoping that holds off my cravings. I thought I shared my coffee recipe, but I don't see it.

    Large mug of coffee, flavored stevia, tbs powder milk, about 2 tsp cocoa powder. Very yummy. I think the cocoa powder is healthy for me.

    Having a hard time getting active today.

    Baby steps. Fasting? Well........in my case, for every extreme deprivation, I find myself having an equal and opposite overeating episode. Think it is best not to do anything to lose weight that you can't continue once your numbers are where you want them. All the best!

    Hello everyone! I’m a 46yo returning MFP user. I started in 2013 when I had to join for a nutrition class in college. I had a little success back then but quickly dropped off the app after I got my A. 2015 I logged back in for a few days but in May 2017 I got serious about starting my journey down the scale. MFP along with the weight loss drug Saxenda and daily walking got me from 245 down to 211 by September 29 that same year. That day was a life changer! I was t-boned in my school bus and came out of the emergency room with a diagnosis of Chiari Malformation. Depression set in and I plateaued. I remained between 211 and 215 for a year and then decided it was time to part ways with both Saxenda and MFP. The first 2 months were fine but late November of last year I became addicted to sweets and worked myself back up to 239 in the next 2 months. So here I am, back on the wagon and looking to pick up some friends to journey back down the scale. Today is Chapter 3 day 1. I never used the community feature before so this should be interesting. Feel free to add me. I’m not looking to follow a “diet”, I’m looking to make the small changes that have the biggest effect on my future.
