Anyone out there ever try the Metabolic Renewal by Dr. Jade? I would love to hear about your experience. Worth it or rip off?

I am seeing lots of buzzwords in the website that are red flags "getting your metabolism back on track" "eating right for your hormone type". It's not worth a penny.
Eat in a calorie deficit suitable for the amount you have to lose for weight loss.
Get your minimum RDA for Protein & Fat, adjust the rest to taste/satiety.
There are thousands, if not millions of free workouts online see HASFIT, Nerd Fitness, Fitness Blender, they all have beginner level stuff and upwards.

@tinkerbellang83 - Thanks for directing me to the workout site Nerd Fitness! I have a 20 year old daughter who thinks exercise is for others, but these people are right up her alley. Just sent her the link. This post has already been a game changer.10

Just increasing exercise is the safest, cheapest, and arguably best way to "improve metabolism."
From a marketing perspective, this is an excellent pitch:

@Lisanotoriginal Is there a specific reason you're interested in that program? Maybe there are folks here who have solved those problems without paying for a program.
In general, we give a lot more power to metabolism and hormones than there is science to back it up. Not to say there aren't hormonal conditions that can mess with weight loss, but the diet industry likes to make women feel like everyone of us needs to know some secret formula to make our bodies work right
Anyway, I agree with @tinkerbellang83 that there are a lot of wooey buzzwords on that site, for whatever that's worth!8 -
I don't like the "exercise like a man" and "exercising like a man hurts you" part.
How do men exercise? Men can do any exercise from weights to dance. Is this one of those "you're a lady, here's the pink dumbbells" plans? I've seen men lift light too, so is that still exercising like a man?
Pass.18 -
Looks like he's just trying to sell something, nothing more. The "Science" tab talks about "findings" with no links to sources.4

Yeah, that made me eye-roll, too. I think that might have been the part where they had little numbers next to the statement as if there were footnotes (since they were referring to research studies) . . . but there didn't seem to be any footnots. LOL!
It does just seem like one more site selling a "magic" solution.4 -
Menopause is kicking me in the *kitten*. I am 54 and did not have peri menopausal symptoms until the last 18 months. Now my eye sight is bad, my hair is gray, I have gained 20 #, I am always frustrated and when I try moderate exercise and diet, I cannot stick with it. Thus, my search for a plan that I can stick with which will help me lose weight.
Thank you all for the replies. In the past, I have never signed up for gimmicky plans. I think my frustration has peaked.
Your replies were great at setting me straight. There is no magic pill except perseverance and time.17 -
For what it's worth, weight loss is really simple. Not easy, that's a different thing, just that it's not complicated. But there really isn't any money in selling "eat less" as advice. The diet industry is worth tens of billions, and that's only possible because there is so much confusion among the public about this. A lot of it is that we're being told the wrong things, and it takes time and energy and discernment to figure it all out.
What I'm trying to say is don't feel bad about having considered this. You aren't there first person and you won't be the last.
Glad that you found this place. Stick around, there are a lot of wise folks who are generous with their time and experience. Looks like you've already met a few of them.

It’s really true. I am not overweight, just always find it hard to keep those last few stubborn lbs off! If I stray from a work out and eating plan for even a short time, those 5 lbs come back on. There really is no magic pill is there? It’s just consistent, smart eating. I also have challenging menopause symptoms. It finally seems like my hot flashes that I’ve endured to 2 yrs are going away. I, too, often feel frustrated and overwhelmed.2

I understand your desperation. We've likely all been there at one point or another. I was 59 and menopausal when I finally started my last diet. I've been in maintenance for a year and a half now and I can tell you it's possible to get there. Take your time and forget about losing 2 lbs a week. Set your loss at .5 a week and be ready to slowly but permanently lose those 20 lbs. I added walking to my daily routine which gives me a few extra calories a day. Finding a few substitutions for high calorie items in your diet will help you to make changes you can live with. Losing weight and keeping it off isn't about a diet that you go off of when you reach your goal. It's about making permanent changes you can live with for life. Good luck and stick with MFP it's free and there are loads of folks here who have done what you are attempting to do and who can help.5

I just want to give you props for coming here with an open mind and actually receiving and taking in the advice given to you on this post. Sometimes for those of us who post here regularly, giving advice on these forums can be like screaming into a void. So to see that there are people who it actually helps is heartening.8

I feel your pain! I know people say menopause in and of itself doesn't/shouldn't cause weight gain, but I did gain weight going through menopause because I fell out of my good habits and routines. I have felt like crap for close to two years, the hot flashes were so bad at one point they pretty much crushed my spirit, I don't sleep well because of night sweats and when I don't sleep well my energy plummets, when my energy is low I struggle with exercise - it's like a big old chain reaction. On top of that I hurt my shoulder and knee and that affected my workouts too. That said, I got tired of feeling horrible so I went back to my old routine of regular workouts and logging food, because doing those things made me feel good. Sometimes I have to really push myself to exercise, and I wish I could do more of the resistance type workouts, but going back to the basics has put my weight loss back into motion. It's a little slower than before, but it's working. You can see from this thread that you are not alone, and you can absolutely reach your goals!!2 -
To all who offered insight and advice - THANK YOU! It is nice to know that I am not the only one who is struggles. Losing weight has never been easy for me, but this is a whole new HARD. I start in the am and by noon, I have derailed myself into an "Eat every thing you can find that is filled with sugar and not tied down."
The other area where I am challenged is the community end of everything. As a single Mom, I ended up with a very small friend group. I was busy working and taking care of my daughter and failed to make connections with other Moms, leaving me with few in person options. She is off at college (most of the year) and I still feel like there is no time for me. I want to stop the world from spinning just for a month or two so that I can catch up.
Venting aside, I will follow your lead and positive examples and log, log , log; one day at a time.6 -
@kimny72 Thank you for the links to the articles. I will get reading!!!2
