I know this has probably been answered before, but do the flavored coffees you get at coffee shops, like the "flavor of the day' or what not, have calories, or are they like the other black coffees that only have calories after you add cream and sugar?

  • Maybe this will help.

DOES FLAVORED COFFEE HAVE MORE FAT AND CALORIES THAN REGULAR COFFEE?

It depends. Coffee made from flavored beans, such as chocolate macadamia nut (my favorite), is virtually calorie and fat free. Flavored beans are simply regular coffee beans that have been infused with compounds that offer more taste without any added calories. That said, powdered instant flavored coffees are made with added sugar and fat. Each six-ounce serving contains about 100 calories and three grams of fat. Sugar-free versions save on calories, but they still have fat. And those flavored syrups used by coffee shops also add calories.

I'm guessing you mean the beans that are flavored, like "Hazelnut Creme" and whatnot. I'm pretty sure that most of them are not higher in calories, because the flavor comes from extracts and spices. If anything gets added, only traces would wind up in your cup. I think they would be obligated to supply nutritional information (like the instant flavored powders are) if they had above 5 calories.

Starbuck's has a very complete nutritional facts brochure - usually near the lids & napkins. It has lots of information about everything you could possibly drink. It may also be on their website.
