Best exercises to help with physical job?

So I’m looking to start a new job that’s VERY physically demanding. It entails carrying 80-90lbs of gear up steep hills multiple times a day over 9-10 hours.

I’ve recently started doing weighted stairs (90lbs x 10 flights), followed by other general weight training, but I’m wondering if there any specific exercises that might be the best for this type of work?

I’m assuming just generally increasing stamina and strength as much as possible will help and ensuring I have a strong core. Just looking for insight/opinions about what kind of things might help keep me strong and prevent on job injuries.

Thank you!

Do you have access to a gym with free weights?

Suitcase carry, Farmers carry, weight sled, push press, dead lifts, lunges, step ups, squats. Side lunges, side squats, standing military press.

I agree. These are all great choices. Remember to work your aerobic fitness as well. Your aerobic capacity will contribute to you being able to repeat your efforts and help recover between bouts. Also, work your midline (core) stability. Having a strong midline will help keep your posture in good form also keeping you away from injury.
