So every other Wednesday my work provides an amazing breakfast spread consisting of different types of kolaches, fruit, cheese, muffins, cinnamon rolls and yogurt. These kolaches are little pieces of heaven but they are probably at least 300-400 calories each. I would usually eat two of them and then eat the fruit and cheese. Yesterday I went in and loaded up my plate with fruit and cheese (in moderation). I did take two of the kolaches but did not eat them. Instead, I took them home to my husband who have been dieing to try them since I've always raved about them.

If you're not from Texas — or a few other choice towns across America — you may have never had the pleasure of eating a kolache. A Central European pastry iconic across the Lone Star State, the kolache is prized for its soft, pillowy dough and its versatility: kolache fillings range from the sweet (apricot, prunes, and poppy seeds) to the savory (sausages). And some fillings, like cheese, even possess qualities of both.

Don't forget sausage, cheese and jalapeno-stuffed kolaches. For the ones topped with cream cheese, they generally put a layer of sugar atop the cheese before baking them.

Also if you are not from TX or similar you have NO IDEA how CRAZY TEMPTING these things are and CAN"T IMAGINE the gall of the people in your office who BRING LARGE BOXES of these things in for meetings, etc.

They sell these f@t pills at practically every corner do-nut shop where I live (close to Houston).

    ARGH!

We have them in Colorado too, my Grandma used to make them with apple filling. That was my absolute favorite! That's awesome that you could resist the temptation!

I prefer the savory ones over the sweet ones. There is a brisket and cheese one that is to die for! Yum!

We have the Kolache Factory (which I WILL not step foot in!) And they have a Boudain Kolache. Ughhhh....where is the humanity!?!?!
