Women 200lb+, Let's Step It Up In June!!!

Hi!!
My Goal for June is to Break 200, I am at 209 now. Getting to 195 would be AMAZING!9 -
Husband is away this week. I must remember to eat dinner. I forget when I'm alone, or get too lazy and just eat bread.
I've been losing an average of 2.5 lbs per week, which is great (at my size, anyway) but I don't want to get too extreme and get sick.
At least with my stomach thing better my water retention is more normal. For a while the scale was swinging upwards of 15 pounds back and forth. Madness.
I have 6 more pounds to go to reach June's goal.7 -
RavenStCloud wrote: »So this week for me hasn't been great because I've been snacking the house down. And on Friday, at the gym, I pulled a muscle in my back and had to go to the doctor's it hurt so badly. I've been in bed for 3 days straight and am on lots of meds. And next week, I'm not allowed to exercise at all. So I've really got to my food and snacking under control.
Last week's results:
Log all food = 7/7
Stay under calorie limit = 2/5
30 mins of cardio = 2/3
Strength train = 2/2
Wish me luck.
I must be the week for snacking. I have had a rough start. A few extra midnight shifts, and I just want to eat all the time. Rest and heal!
Good luck!5 -
Finished my eating for today. It's scary when you see how much sodium and sugar are in foods you would never think had any. I am trying to eliminate as much sodium as I possibly can. Not as concerned about sugar, though I should be. I am so very sick of having elephant feet!4
-
Sodium is the worst! I just don’t get why it’s in so much stuff. We really try to avoid processed food so we can decrease our sodium. Water retention I can deal with; what it does to my blood pressure is another story!1
-
The last few months I have lost myself. The month of May was really bad. I'm trying to get back on track for June, eating healthier and exercise. I am also going to try to be more active in group.
Due to a mini vacation of 3.5 days and eating junk I gained weight this week. I was behind to start, now I just put myself further behind. Time to get my butt in gear!!

I saw my doctor yesterday for some strange feeling in the right side of my neck which I thought might be a somewhat swollen lymph node. Everything was good and it seems it may just be stress related. I made an appointment with the chiropractor for Friday, as my back is still hurting.
However, at the doctor, I brought up phentermine with him, as my husband is taking it and asked about it. I told him I had maintained since roughly November and am counting calories to lose weight and have lost ~40 on my own. He thought I should still take phentermine and told me that at 1600 calories I'm eating too much and should take it back to 1400. He said for my height, 1600 should be maintenance. I told him I've been eating at 1600 and losing on it and was losing when I was eating higher calories and heavier before.
I thought that was a little strange he told me to cut back so much. I did try at 1400 before for 2 pounds a week but was very hungry all the time and dialed it back to 1.5 pounds a week, which brought me to 1600. I looked up reviews of those who were on phentermine and some of the side affects and experiences were a little frightening. He wants to see me back in a month and wants to see any weight loss, not a specific number.
I'm just getting a strange feeling about the whole thing and am tempted to just keep doing what I'm doing and not take the pills. I'd still go back in a month for a checkup but only with the losses from counting calories and starting at the gym.
Has anyone else here been on phentermine? It's been working for my husband, yes, but he didn't do well with counting calories before and just eats whatever he wants, in very large amounts. He's had some side effects from it that I won't delve into but if anyone else has been on it, can you advise of how you felt on it and if you experienced any side effects?1 -

You know how your body works better than anyone. If 1600 calories makes sense for you, you're not starving, AND you're still losing weight then in my (non medical) opinion, you should stay the course. That certainly seems healthier than a drug that can have bad side effects that you'll eventually have to stop anyway. Any doctor that's pushing you on a drug you don't seem to need seems a little shady to me.
I would recommend finding a registered dietician (not a nutritionist). She can help you better figure out calories and can give you tips and tricks and overall positive reinforcement (at least that's what mine does). Most RD also have the body composition scales that take into account not only your body fat, but also muscle mass, water, and bone, etc. That way they can give you a more accurate count of calories you should be consuming.
Good luck, whatever you decide!5 -
Today has been an object lesson in why food prep is important. Oh, yeah, and that whole getting enough to eat thing.
I’m working toward a plant based, whole food approach to meals for the family and fitness training of some kind daily. Was doing well but used up the last of our fresh veg this morning. B/t breakfast at 5:00 am and dinner at 4:30pm, I didn’t have much beyond an apple and a protein bar.
I’m still only slightly over caloric range for the day and have finally stopped imitating a snail, (or maybe a sloth?) but only after bingeing at dinner. And for the first time all week, I’ve not done any strength training—not even squats.
And this, classmates, is why you keep foods stocked and prep meals in advance. Heigh ho, I’ll do better tomorrow. I’ll consider today a win if I catch up on the house without imitating a narcoleptic Argentinian.5 -

Just getting back into trying to get healthy. I am starting a whole natural food way of eating so my goals will mostly be about sticking to that and making meal prep a priority. I always make dinner and everything so it's not a huge change except I am not able to use a lot of my standard recipes. Doing a lot of research on paleo as it has lots of fresh whole foods.
Goals this month
Track everything for 30 days
Work out 3x weekly
Eat unprocessed food only
I'm also hoping to lose 10 lbs by July8 -

I’m doing 1600 calories, low carb, low fat. I exercise nightly. I’ve lost 34 pounds since I switched to this. It was recommended by a dietician.4 -

I'm with everyone else here. If what you're doing is working, and you don't feel hungry at the end of the day, then keep with that. He said he wanted to see any sort of weight loss by you're next visit, right? Show him you CAN lose weight thru diet and exercise and not with the aid of pills. Keep it up!4 -
Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to go with my gut on this one and not take the pills but will instead continue doing what I'm doing and next week my husband and I will start at the gym. I'm going to go ahead and get the pills so he sees that I picked them up but won't use them and I'll let him know that at my next appointment. I think maybe he feels that those who are overweight can't do it on their own.
@RavenStCloud How are you feeling today? Any better?2 -

All medications typically have some type of side effect - its a matter if it is more or less beneficial with the side effects, probably only you can decide for that. After I had my auto accident in 2009 my weight spiked and I took the pills, I did not find them particularly effective, and I had heart palpitations. Yes 1600 is closer to maintenance unless you are really active. Dial it down a little at a time, if you are doing 1600 then do 1500 for a month - and go from there. What it means is that your calories need to matter more. No soda's, empty calories. What you eat matters. I'm at 1100 each day, I'm in my mid 40's, 5'6, do water xercise mostly and I had a surgery in April, with now added hormones of an IUD (which I didn't want but ws medically necessary), my loss has stalled, or very tiny movement downwards, but I can't really dip more than 1100.1 -
@ColoradoLivingg Yeah, doing okay. This is day 5 and my back is slowly feeling better. I carried a hamper full of dirty clothes down the stairs today, so progress! Thanks for asking.
Also, just be wary of a doctor you need to pretend with or who might have a weight bias. I hurt my knee really badly a couple of years ago and went to my regular doctor. He told me I was "just fat" and needed to lose weight. I was in pain for a couple weeks before I decided to go to a new doctor (who was a woman). Within about three minutes, she discovered I had a torn miniscus and set me up with physical therapy and tools to help. So just be aware that even nice doctors can sometimes be prejudiced without realizing.6 -

Hi I’m Cassandra,
I would love to join you I always need new friends and encouragement. And I’ll be your cheerleader too:) add me if you would like.
I am a native Montanan who uprooted and moved to Florida in January. Sunshine state right, better get my *kitten* fit for swim suits right lol:)
I have just started to really get my butt moving in this last month. But I’m on a pretty good start walking 4-8 miles per day 6 days a week. My diet, well I’m sticking to my calorie goals but the food ranges from chocolate cake to broccoli. So some days good some days bad.

For June, I have been thinking about habits I have developed that are bad or that make me feel bad, and wanted to incorporate those things as goals. I also want to feed my soul this month; like many of you, I have struggled with depression. In May, I actually did my gardening (for 2 years I’ve neglected them). My yard is looking awesome, and I’m feeling awesome!

Goals:
• On my days off, not to sit at my dining room table for more than 2 hours in the morning. I will then get up and get busy.
I will do this literally half the day; drinking tea and playing on my phone. I have such a high stress job that on my days off I feel I “deserve” to relax. I do, BUT this is a terrible habit for my mind and body.
• I will do at least one creative project this month.
I am a very artistic person, and it is something that feeds my soul. I have a chalkboard in my kitchen that I enjoy drawing on. I have not changed the art on it in at least a year!
• I will continue trying to reach 1500 ml of water/day as this is very difficult for me due to my job.
• I will try to increase my sleep to 7 hours/day. I usually average around 6 or less.
I had so many NSV this month. The best one is that all of my clothes are getting loose; including my pajama pants. I felt so bad about myself when my stretchy pants didn’t fit me anymore, so I’m on top of the world!
First week of June down! Good job everyone!
Week 1: 182.4
I’m a tad disappointed with that, I was hoping to reach my halfway mark this week. Earlier in the week I weighed myself and I was 181.2...but I’m on day 25 of my 28 day cycle so I’m starting to bloat. So I guess I just have to wait another week.
I’ve been doing pretty great meeting my goals this week. I’ve been staying busy and not sitting in my favorite spot! I got my last and largest garden bed weeded, stained and put 1 coat of sealer on my picnic table, and have done a bunch of cooking. It’s rained quite a bit this week so I still have some things to finish up.
I’ve been doing really great drinking enough; I have exceeded my goal of 1500 ml most days.
My goal of sleeping 7 hrs every night has been a struggle. I have to be up so early for work so that means I have to go to bed pretty early...and life gets in the way. I am definitely getting more sleep than I usually do.
Haven’t started anything creative yet...but I have been looking for inspiration/planning it out.
I’ve realized I have a few other NSV:
-I haven’t had heartburn in about 2 months. I was suffering with it daily before, especially if I forgot my Pepcid.
-Yesterday I realized I haven’t been having pain in my right hip. This had started about a year ago, and it had been getting pretty bad. I knew it was from my weight because I had this problem during my second pregnancy.
6 -
Took a young crew swimming. To my surprise, we all swam for four solid hours straight. We must’ve needed it!
After dropping off those not related to me and a promised salon stop for a young woman, I took my entourage to dinner at a buffet. My plate remained solidly in the plant based whole food realm. Double win.
Pretty sure we’ll all sleep well tonight.4 -

SW:275
CW:245
This week has been interesting I got offered a promotion at work which I’m excited for, but I know my coworkers will not be as thrilled... so I’ve just been preparing myself for the backlash, which involves me working out extra hard so that I can distract my mind..
Completed my first week of transform 20 tomorrow is thankfully my rest day thank god!!!! I honestly thought everyday that I did it that it would get easier LIES!! Everyday Shaun finds a muscle that I never knew existed to destroy...
I’ve been doing very well at keeping my carbs and calories down or at least I think I am, but mfp seems to think not when I log my exercise and it ups my calories and I can’t close my journal for the day 🙄
A NSV that I do have that I haven’t even noticed until today. I have not used my “big girl towels” in a while... I’m actually able to close a regular towel around me without that awkward peekaboo down the middle!!!! I think that was more shocking for me than actually getting to 245 for the first time in years!
I HOPE EVERYONE ELSE HAS HAD A PHENOMENAL GOAL CRUSHING WEEK!!!!!6 -

Get the prescription filled if you haven't. Keep the pills but don't take them. If your happy with our current rate of weight loss don't cut your calories. You want to save the cutting of calories until you really have to. There will be a plateau at some point where you have to either cut more calories or up your working out in order to loose any more weight, that's the only time you want to make changes. The phentermine may come in handy when you get very close to your goal and hit a plateau, that's why I would get any scripts filled and just save them. Don't take 37.5mgs of phentermine! The few doctors actually willing to prescribe that pill love to give the strongest dose(37.5mg) to people which is also the dose most likely to come with side effects. If you took 37.5mg of phentermine and DIDN'T have side effects I would be surprised. When/if you take it only take half. If its a capsule buy empty ones and split it that way. You really don't want any more than 30mg of phentermine a day. If you were lucky enough to get prescribed 30mg capsules those are the best, take half for the first week then decide if you want to start taking a whole one the next. If you were given 37.5mg and the doctor tries to give you more on the next visit I would specifically ask for 30mg CAPSULES. If he asks why just tell him the other pills were too strong or that your afraid of the high dosage. Not many doctors will prescribe phentermine. Not many doctors understand how it works, how to prescribe the correct dosage or what to tell patients about the drug. That's a big part of why people are having bad experiences while taking it and having side effects. Wrong formulation, high dosage, not drinking or eating enough are almost always the reasons people have bad experiences and side effects. They really should be prescribing 15mg to start patients off and very rarely should 37.5mg be prescribed, its just too strong for most people especially first time users.1 -

So I managed to lose "5lbs" this week! Most of which I believe is water from all the stuff we ate when we were at Disneyland and from all the walking we did. It took me 5 days to get back down to the weight I was before we left, so I think my total actual weight loss this week is 1.6 lbs. Still very good and encouraging. I was battling allergies and was feeling like crud, so I didn't get to work out nearly as much as I wanted too, but now that I've got that under control, I have no reason to get back to it!
Goals for this week:
- Walk on treadmill 5/7 days this week for at least 30 min.
- Stay within calorie goal
- Find new stuff to make for lunch. Salads are getting boring.4 -

I've been very sedentary for the last couple years, but have started walking a few times a week. I'm hoping to join a gym when I get some money coming in.
My NSV is that climbing the stairs to my apartment has gotten easier.
My goals for June are to start eating more lean protein and veggies and less carbs, try making a smoothie, and to continue walking. I'd also like to get down to 199.7
