I keep reading that calorie deprivation ruins your metabolism. Do you all think this is true or a bunch of bull?

    What constitutes as very low calories and for a long time? 1200 or lower?

    Yes, for a woman. And done for many months or even years.

    So if you eat 1200 to lose weight, how can you avoid the consequences of slowing your metabolism?

    You should only eat 1200 calories if that is appropriate for you. Here is an article about why it should not be chosen arbitrarily:
