Fitness and anxiety

edited December 2024 in Introduce Yourself
Hi all, my name is Rachael and i’ve just started my weight loss and fitness journey! Had a bad few years of losing both my parents, divorce and moving house and jobs, along with acute anxiety!
I always find that doing exercise gives me the same feelings of having anxiety and panic attacks which is where i have struggled to do exercise. Any tips on good exercises that are gentle to start with until i become more comfortable.
Would love your thoughts - thank you x

Taking walks around the block is a good way to start. You could progress to jogs when you're ready.

Tai chi, Weight lifting, Swimming, Yoga, Walking, Bike-riding. Pilates. Start slowly so you are comfortable. :)

It's the unknown things that root that doubt for many people. They don't know if they can do X, so they don't do X. I'd suggest doing things you are comfortable with at first. If you enjoy walking, walk. And if you can find a peaceful place to walk, that may help with overall anxiety as well. Don't push yourself into something until you are comfortable with it.

As mentioned before walking is the way to go, if you are lucky enough to live in or around the countryside walking in the countryside is excellent for anxiety

Signing up for a fun class is a good way to be consistent. Yoga, Pilates, dancing, whatever sounds fun to you!
