I am 33 yrs old and obese by 15 kgs extra. I have started going gym since a month. I started lifting weights but not heavy. I didnt have a problem during 3 weeks. on 4th week, when i started doing for chest, i experienced back pain. its beeen 5th week now. and i stopped gym after the backpain. I am concerned now that i am not able to go gym and my look is out of shape (not because of gym, even before too, i am out of shape only). back pain reducing these days but trainer is advicing to do only walking, jogging for some time. Fitness freaks, Do let me know your thoughts. I am as well working on to be moderate alorie deficiet.

Honestly, I hurt my hip and back so I'm concentrating on losing weight first and then exercise once I'm at a lower weight.

Chiro, Massage therapist, doctor. Back pain can a result of a lot. Personally being over weight cause my back to hurt. My living mechanics were thrown off so I had to reconstruct my form and then when I lost weight do it over again! Don’t rush anything and take your time with getting that back, back to shape!

If you have a good idea of what caused your back pain and it seems to be getting better, then I would agree that for now you should stick with moderate exercise that doesn't cause pain.

If you don't know what caused the pain and/or it doesn't seem to be improving, go to the doctor.

Remember, weight loss is caused by a calorie deficit. Exercise is for other health and fitness benefits, but is not required for weight loss. As long as you ensure that you eat at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight whether you exercise or not.

Walking is a good idea. It can help with your recuperation (movement - the right kind - is good because it keeps your muscles warm and the blood flowing to help heal.

I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on the internet.

I had back pain more than a year ago after a lot of lifting. My doctor's first question was whether it was sharp or dull, and did it extend into my leg? He also wanted to know if there was a specific moment when it came on. If it's sharp, goes into your leg, or began at a specific moment, go see your doctor.

Really, you should see your doctor either way though. If it's nothing, you'll be relieved.

Or, better yet, a doctor, or physiotherapist ...

You could see a chiropractor or go and see an actual medical professional who will be able to offer genuine help.

    See a doctor or physiotherapist.

Both of these people are right.

There are many causes of back pain. Some will take care of themselves and never bother you again, others are serious health problems and can become unbearably painful. You might need an MRI for a diagnosis, I say that having recently watched somebody deal with terrible back pain and need an MRI before they could figure out how to help her. A chiropractor can't give you an MRI, or interpret one. A massage probably isn't going to fix it.
