Carbs

I had a 20 mile bike ride and 4 bagels for lunch. Dinner was pasta with pesto sauce and several kinds of vegetables. I'm intending to have oatmeal with fresh raspberries for dessert, but I'm pretty stuffed. Almost 450 g of carbs today. Hit my protein goal too.
I'm still losing weight because I'm in a calorie deficit. The scale confirms this.
All of it was delicious! It's refilling my muscles with the glycogen I've been using. I don't normally take quite as much % of my calories from carbs, but I need to be fast on Sunday.
My point is: don't fear carbs if you don't have a medical need to avoid them.

Oh man, I wish a 20-mile bike ride burned enough calories for me to eat 4 bagels and a pasta dinner and still be in a deficit. It must be nice to be a guy! The biggest disappointment I had in losing weight was realizing how sad my calorie burn is now.6

I'm not really a bagel person but still love those carbs. I eat pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, oats, fruit and so many carbs all the time. They taste so good and feel so yummy in my tummy.
Lol. Carbs are great! 53 pounds down eating a lot of carbs daily. Don't fear the carbs people - unless of course you have a medical need obviously.6 -
I have a medical need to reduce my carbs (T2Dm managed by diet and exercise only) and even I don't fear them. My Dr. recommended daily max is 150 grams per day but the occasional over day is not a problem as long as I also have some under days to balance it out. This is a good thing when there are holiday dinners or the occasional "I HAVE to have carbs" day.6

Cant perform well in gym if ur carbs so low8 -

It's long been a mystery to me why so many people decided that eliminating a group of foods from their diet which happens to include vegetables would help with weight loss.Nature's great natural hunger eliminator - the banana - has more carbs than keto allows in an entire day. Sometimes I do eat lowER carb because it seems to even out my appetite and hunger pangs a bit, but it definitely has no impact on the scale, as anyone with a calorie logger and scale can see for themselves.13

I'm not "Low/No Carbs" but, on my small calorie allowance carbs cost so much that I don't eat bread/rice or pasta any more. LOTS of fruit and vegetables though 😁5

Did a long distance ride yesterday.
60g of muesli for breakfast and then aiming for 60 - 90g of carbs an hour for five hours.
Very striking when you look at your fellow riders it's like a mini "Blue Zone". Very few overweight, most very lean and fit looking, all eating a lot of carbs.
Including a group of five friends cycling at a decent pace but also very clearly enjoying the ride (and their food!) - the youngest of the group was 76.

Yeah, this. I'd not chose bagel but a good crusty wholegrain bread with very old, hard gouda, but the same holds true. I'd not give myself more than 1000kcal for a 100km bike ride. Thus 20 miles would be 1/3 = 340ish, likely less. But lets be honest: my bike is light, fast, it's flat here, and it won't take a lot longer than an hour. Actually, I plan to visit a concert in another town in September, and as it will end late and trains back might be a problem way past midnight I consider taking my bike on the train out, and cycling back. It's just 30km.2 -

It is not really a mystery. If you eliminate a large calorie source and do not fully replace it you may end up in a calorie deficit with no calorie counting and really only the one rule "avoid carbs". Like all plans it is only going to work for a small percentage of people.
I tried lc for a week and I didn't care for it. It is necessary for me to manage my carbs but mine are still moderate and I don't fear a higher carb day I just have to be careful.
I think it is easier to count calories and be able to eat everything. It means I don't have to worry about a friend or family member inviting me over to food I can't eat or going out to eat in an Italian place and having minimal choices.5 -
I just did a 50 mile ride over the weekend (spread out over 14 hours - 5.5 total hours on the bike). Carbs were definitely my friend before and during this! I never ride much more than a few miles and didn't realize how many calories this can burn!1
