Hi everyone, so I’m new and I’ve been on keto/ low carbing for about 18 days now. I got on the scale today and I’m only down 1lb! I’m pretty upset about it! I don’t drink pop anymore, limite my coffee to twice a week, I drink water like it’s nobody’s business lol. Been eating more greens, only certain fruits, I try very hard to only it carbs once a week and if I do eat carbs keep it in the 5-10% range. I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’m on my feet all day moving I’ve been getting to the gym twice a week. If anyone has ideas or thinks I’m doing something wrong please tell me. I appreciate it

Regardless of what type of diet you choose to eat, weight loss comes down to calories. Have you been sticking to your calorie goal?

Water weight swings can really mess with the scale for women at different times of the month. If you're timing is bad, you might have water weight fluctuations covering up your initial results.

Check out these threads, they were helpful to a lot of us in the beginning:

    Hang in there :drinker:

is this the first time in 18 days you got back on the scale? Our bodies go for fluctuations daily and over weeks and a month (especially women). depending on time of cycle and time you weighted yourself that number maybe on high average for all we know.

if you have increased exercise your muscles may also be retaining water.

and x100 everything Kimny said above.

I eat a plant based diet and I count my calories religiously. You have to find what works best for you. My question is what kind of change can you make and stick with for one year. Patience is key. I'm going on two months and I plan on eating like I am right now for the rest of my life. I think diets are bad and lifestyle changes are good. :)

Even on Keto, it's still about calories. Start logging all your food and stay within your calorie goal. Be consistent and log for 4-6 weeks before making any further calorie adjustments. Like Kimney72 said, lots of reasons why weight may not move for a couple weeks to a month, including hydration, heat, new exercise, more exercise, change in foods, stress, sleep, hormonal cycle for women.

It is calories that matter....your fruit and vegetables are carbs and you are not in ketosis and that is why you are not losing if you want to do the zero carb Atkins/ Keto thing. I tried that long ago..and I was shocked when die hard Adkins dieters told me that calories count when doing a very low carb diet. I always thought you could eat all you wanted of meat and cheese..but you can't.

Try to turn your question around: when you gained some weight - were you also "overwhelmed" or just kept on eating? Weight gain is a slow process, so is weight loss. Trust MFP, let them do all the calculations, you decide on your macros you best function long term. Prepare yourself a basic meal plan for the next day and take it meal by meal, day by day. I am on day 475 and so far have lost 39 kg (85 pounds) and much more to lose.

I was trying the same things with intermittent fasting as well and could not understand why I wasn’t losing. My doctor asked me to give this app a try and log my food religiously. He gave me 1500 cal/day and told me to indulge my cravings, but to do so in a smart manner (aka smaller portions), and told me to log something before I eat it so that I know what impact it will have and can make smarter choices. Within two weeks of that appointment I was down 8 pounds. Being honest with yourself about the calories and counting those calories is the most important. Best of luck!
