Two years retired and gained 10 pounds!

Hi all! I retired from working in an elementary school, where I was constantly on the move, just two years ago. I work on my treadmill daily and eat what I think is pretty good so I am very frustrated that the pounds are piling on. After finding MFP I found out how I was underestimating my activity level by a wide margin compared to while I was still working. I have paired the app with Accupedo, which tracks my steps daily and have increased steps from 5000 up to 8000 in two weeks. I now do the treadmill 30 minutes daily interval training with speed and incline alternating days. I also have a five pound dumbbell routine for upper body strength on days I do speed treadmill. Also found a 9 minute strength workout in a New York Times article, squats, front lunge, plank, etc which I do at least three times a week. Since beginning the app I have lost 3.5 pounds..

That's actually not bad. I gained 25 lbs over the last 8 weeks. Admittedly, post surgery, but still.1

Sounds like you've got it covered! Remember, it does come off slower the older you get (believe me, I know!), but it's still CICO, so log your food and continue with your exercises and you should be golden!

18 months retired I worked in a school as lead TA very active went up 6lb since retiring but losing a 1lb a week since re- joining so far so good just have to keep active finding jobs to do and exercise routines to stick too.1

True about eating! I have always done pretty good with that part...never have gotten into the chips and cookie stuff...right now the 1200 calories is no sweat...I pretty much can stay under it. I eat yogurt, nuts, fruit am along with vitamins, lunch is a boiled egg or half a tuna sandwich, dinner is a protein like chicken, sweet potato, and fresh veggies. My weak spot is the activity level which is why I focused so much on it...I am a slacker at heart! Lol0

My eating is weird I know due to my husband cooking (pie, potatoes etc and times we eat due to his diabetes) i have changed my supper foods, cut done on the amount ,increased my exercise but I need to cut down on wine and crisps and eat more fruit. Doing dry August to help.0 -
