Is it bad to go over sugar that comes from fruit?

If I eat fruit and a like a teaspoon of honey in my tea and it causes me to go over my sugar allotment for the day is that bad?

Not unless you need to restrict sugar for medical reasons. I pretty much ignore the sugar macro and go over it every single day. I’m three pounds from my goal weight.9

The default sugar recommendation in MFP is based on the USDA recommendation for ADDED sugar. It was never intended to include fruit. Unless you are trying to figure out a dose of insulin there is zero reason to keep an eye on sugar in particular anyway. Sugar is just one form of carb. Enjoy your fruit, within your calorie goals!10

It’s not “bad” to go over the sugar guideline given by MFP unless you are diabetic, or have some other medical reason to limit sugar intake.2

Glad I found this thread as I am having the same problem and was worried - I go over every day and it all comes from fruit and milk.3

If you read the book: How not to die; Dr. Greger cites a study that showed that people ate up to 48 servings of fruit per day with no change in weight. Better yet the sugars that come from fruit do not spike your sugar the way raw sugar does. I've lost 12 pounds eating all the fruit I want during the day. Also fruits deep in red color have tons of antioxidants that prevent cancer and many fruits have anti-inflammatory properties and other positive effects that make life better. So instead of a protein bar, eat some fruit and a couple walnuts.24

How exactly will some fruit and a couple of walnuts provide me with the amount of protein I'm eating a protein bar to get?13 -
I eat two bananas, an orange, a cup of blueberries (140g), 200g of cherries, and 2-300g of strawberries every day. My fridge is stuffed with fruit and veg, which spills out onto countertops.
I may be a little fruit heavy but I figure it’s a damn sight better than the two or three pounds of chocolate candy “old me” could knock back every stinking day. Plus those bags of cookies, and generally cake. A lot of cake.

That's nice to know; I wasn't aware of that. I go over the allotted grams of sugar every day as well and I eat very little added sugar. I wasn't super worried about it, but I did wonder how it was calculated. Thanks, Rhedd!0 -

You suggest eating fruit over a protein bar - most people eat protein bars to ensure they are getting adequate protein as a supplement to their intake from food, which helps maintain muscle whilst losing weight and can also help with satiety. When losing weight and becoming more active protein is important and not everyone can manage to get enough into their diet, so a bar or shake is a quick, low calorie and convenient way of doing it. How does eating fruit help with those things?
Fruit is great and full of vitamins, etc but it's not going to replace what I eat protein for.5 -

I too have lost weight while eating lots of fruit.
However, nuts aren't a great source of protein because they contain so much fat you have to eat a whole lot of nut calories for just a little protein.
According to the USDA, 14 walnut halves, so 7 whole, have only 4 grams of protein for 185 calories.
I'm not arguing for protein bars, just against thinking of nuts as a good protein source when they should be thought of as a good fat source.
If people want plant-based sources of protein, they should think foods like legumes or seitan.8 -
