I have changed my diet pretty drastically over the last 2 weeks. I have lost 4 pounds so far. I have come to a complete stop with the weight loss. I realized that I haven't...you know... gone # 2 in a while - sorry this is gross but I have a point I promise. I was wondering if anyone else has battled constipation because of a diet change and if that can be the reason I have not lost anything else.

Are you getting enough fiber in your diet? I would try adding Benefiber to your water, or just eat a lot of fiber filled foods.

I haven't had that problem. Make sure you are eating enough fiber and drinking lots of water and you should have no problem going. Good luck!

Yes, that can happen when you drastically change your diet...Keep drinking plenty of water and filling up on veggies...If you've already plateaued, l would look at my calories ie. are you eating all of your calories plus eating back your exercise calories?

While you will initially lose weight by cutting back your calories, you'll stop losing if you aren't eating enough....

And possibly, not going #2 will hold up some of that weight loss......

I have and it totally sucked!!! So I had to add extra diet in my fiber cuz I was lacking. So I started eating half a cup of Fibre One for breakfast with milk, and within a week....I felt much better. I also made sure to eat whole wheat rather then white breads or pitas. Almonds as well are great to much on for the extra fibre too!

I battle with chronic constipation unfortunately. I believe I have IBS - although not "formally" diagnosed. The change in my diet back in April really threw my whole system for a loop - but it's gotten better. I take an over the counter stool softener every day (very mild and will not "make" you go! sorry TMI) and I've also recently introduced an acidophilus/probiotic capsule every day into my diet. It is supposed to help with intestinal health.

So, just some suggestions that you may or may not want to try. If you're eating a high fiber diet by the way, be sure to drink lots and lots of water! High fiber minus adequate water intake can make you stopped up.

And be patient. You will get through this! I know how miserable it is, but try to stick to your goals. It is worth it! I have lost 48 lbs so far on MFP!

If you're taking a vitamin with iron and/or calcium in it, that can cause constipation too. My best advice would just be to make sure you're getting enough fiber in your diet - fruits and veggies, and if that doesn't change anything, you can try taking something like benefiber to try to move things along.

I found it interesting. I was gassy at first with the lifestyle change, but it gets better. :)

I did have that prob a couple of times at the start. I took some Fybogel sachets morning and night and it helped get things back on track. The other thing that works is to put your fav dried fruit in a cup and add boiling water to it, once it has cooled strain and drink, eat the soaked fruit for a wee snack too. Hope it's short lived for you

I purchased Supreme90 (low cost verison of P90X) The first thing it states is to drink 32 ounces of water before you even get out of the bed in the morning. I tried it and I now go to the bathroom everyday. Before that; I would only go once a week (if that). Try it, It may take a day or two but after that as long as you drink the 32 ounces every morning you won't have any problems. I drink mine within 10-15 mins. Good Luck!

Besides fiber and water which have already been mentioned, try having grapes or 100% grape juice everyday. A doctor told me once that grapes are good for this problem too. Good luck!

I've lived with that issue for many years. What's worked for me is plenty of water, very high fiber intake and lots of stool softener capsules. Keeping our colon clean is vital to good health (prevents bowel strangulation: a surgical emergency).

I agree with this. If you are eating high protein low carb this will happen. I would also suggest you eat at least one salad a day and/or some broccoli. All of these will help your issue. OH and if you aren't taking Fish Oil, start it will help too. I really like GNC's Triple Fish Oil. No aftertaste.

    Good luck!

I found a list of high fiber foods. I'm gonna try a high fiber diet for a few days and I'm also drinking this natural tea that is suppose to help with this problem. I already drink a ton of water just because I don't really like soda or juice.
