gender confusion on MFP

Why is it that when a post asks for opinions from men that women answer and when a post asks for opinions from women that men answer?? I'm thinking that generally the poster is trying to get an opinion from a member of the opposite sex when they ask their question and answers from their same gender are somewhat counterproductive.
And, for the record, feel free to answer this regardless of whether you are male, female or other.

HAHAHA! I WAS JUST thinking that EXACT same thing! HAHAHAHA! It is so funny to me that you posted that! I was just reading a post about what body shape men like in women and there are a bunch of women on there saying "I think that men like this..."
HAHAHA! I think that is counter productive...and really doesnt answer the question that the person asking was trying to get answered! LOL - thats just my opinion though...

Maybe it's a reading comprehension fail. :laugh:0

bahahaha, I have no idea and have wondered the same thing as it seems to happen ALL of the time. I look forward to seeing how soon this gets pulled for being "controversial".0

does it really matter that much

It'll happen. Someone will get mad at me for being sexist or rude or demeaning and go tattle. Ironically, I mean nothing sexist, rude or demeaning by this thread but someone will find it in there regardless.0 -
does it really matter that much

No. It doesn't but I'm curious anyway. If it's not important to you, don't post in this thread.0 -
I wonder that quite often myself. I think it's because some people just think they know everything about the opposite sex.0

I am right there with you (same level) and just know as many people get their panties in a twist or boxers, just to clarify, that someone will most definitely get offended, tell you where to shove it (probably where the sun don't shine) and then report you for being sexist, when in fact all you did was ask a simple question...0 -
b.c I don't like to be excluded ...its like telling some1 whatever you do don't push that button lol0
-
It's because I'm a woman. Enough said. :laugh:0

You mean when someone posts "For Men Only: Men, what do you think about this" it doesn't mean "Hey, everyone, what do you think men think about this?"0
-
I think people post that sometimes to get others to look and respond to their post...if I have a girls only post, I usualy mean it and guys might get grossed out over something tmi, but at least I warned them. lol0

This is why I want a tattoo of a sunset on my rear....Then I can say "& where would that be?" LOL

I think most people just have a natural curiosity & when you make something exclusive they want to know why. Once there they want to add their 2 cents.
lol- Like me, there's my 2 cents.0 -
Because in public forums, people tend to think that everyone's opinion is equal...
isn't it?0 -
Ha, I just did that. I just thought that the topic was an interesting discussion rather than simply a question and answer situation. I guess I may have been wrong and will be careful next time

such hostility, man!0 -
does it really matter that much

Agreed.
Most of those survey type questions are a bit pointless anyway, as if one answer is ever going to sum everyhting up for everyone. They can be fun to join in with so that's why everyone piles in I think. Ignore the Men/Women only caveat - if you want to join in do, you can only be ignored0 -
I think that the appropriate gender is going to respond anyway.
I've filed this issue under "Things I Can't Even Force Myself to Care About."0 -
Because everyone wants to throw in their .20

i guess people want to provide as many viewpoints as possible? i'm sure they're not doing it maliciously to ruin someone's thread. i mean..it's a public forum no? lol0
-
Because I'm opinionated, and I've never been very good at following directions. Just like a guy.

Why do people get offended by other people getting offended?
I'm not offended-just trying to follow some of the posters' logic0 -
Because we can!!!!!!!!! reply that is not get offended lol0
-
I just did that yesterday. I wanted to bookmark the thread to read so had to put something in. Plus it's interesting to compare what one gender thinks vs what the other gender thinks they think.0

i must admit i thought this was adressing something else when i first read the thread title..0

I wish more people would realize there's really not THAT much difference between men and women. We're not difference species. We have very similar wants and needs and insecurities.
There is no "understanding men" or "understanding women," because we're ALL individuals (waiting for the Life of Brian fan to say, "I'm not."). There's no need, no point, to trying to "figure out the opposite sex." It's only (ha!) a matter of finding the one (or ones) you do understand... with whom you share common values and goals.
It doesn't matter if most men prefer blondes, brunettes or redheads, or if they love or hate makeup, or if they like big butts and they cannot lie. The only man whose opinion matters to me is the one I'm sharing my life with. Likewise for women. What the majority wants doesn't matter. Finding someone who appreciates the real, genuine YOU is all that matters.
No one should change who they really, genuinely are to try to appeal to the masses.0 -
Because everyone wants to throw in their .2
did you mean their .02? LOL0 -
