Hello, I admit I hate planks and exercise in general, but I recently injured my back and have started doing these with physical Therapy and they do help so here I go. My goal is 1-2 minutes a day starting today. I wish us all good luck and happier spines😀.

I'm not participating this month, but I have a question for you. I have MapMyWalk and Google Fit. Neither one has planks listed in typs of workouts. So how would you log it?
It has never occurred to me to log it. You're not moving much, it doesn't burn a lot of calories per minute.
I just tried entering it as "strength training" (which you can find under Cardio in the database) and I got 14 calories for my 6 minutes. That is lost in the general inaccuracies of the system.1 -

Aug 27 I can’t thank you enough for this challenge!!!! Took me awhile, but overnight, without even thinking about it, I went up into full planks!!! Did 4 1-minute & 2 30 sec. this was IMPOSSIBLE for me even a couple of weeks ago.
5 min full planks, 4 min dead bug with blue band, 4 toe taps
I can’t believe it only took 3 weeks.

Sounds like we should. I will ask my PT on Friday!! She did say planks are not worth doing unless fully tightening everything...she has me take a big breath in then Tighten, another breath, tighten again, squeeze, hold, repeat...0 -

@jeffrey_ad Thanks for linking the blog. Interesting, but none of us are trying to do 6 hours of planks! It sounds very extreme!
I thought there was something about following a program and building up your time. I do a variety of planks - 80 secs forearms with some leg lifts. 40 secs side plank with some rotations, 40 secs other side. 80 secs straight arms with some hand transfers side to side, some leg lifts etc. So I'm doing quite a lot of re-setting and as @MadisonMoIly2017 says "Tighten, another breath, tighten again, squeeze, hold, repeat.. "
I have a short breather between each section and then do another short 2 minute routine some hours later. I suppose I could try breaking it up a bit more. I'll give it a go tomorrow.0 -

I did try shorter holds yesterday - 6x 40 seconds in the morning and 3x 40 secs in the afternoon. I don't know whether it made any difference.
I might have a rest day today.

I checked with PT. She said there’s “no clinical reason for her to recommend one over the other.” (Ie fewer longer holds or more shorter) Sounded as though it might depend on one’s goal, but mine is strengthening a weak core. Others have different goals.
Also, she told me to actively straighten my leg by tightening my quads in addition to all the rest..and to keep breathing!0 -
