Wish me luck

Let me state right up front -- I hate, hate, hate fish! Don't like the mushy texture or the fishy taste. Can't cook it worth a darn and don't want to. So my husband, God bless him, has decided, after 20 years of marriage, that it is his mission to get me to like fish. He's so excited, he went to the fish market, bought some mahi mahi and is going to cook dinner tonight. I don't want to hurt his feelings but does anyone have any suggestions about what I can put on this creature so I don't upchuck?

ha ha ha! there are so many different variates of fish and I was once told that fish that actually tastes fishy isn't cooked properly!
You should try every different type of fish you can, there's bound to be one type of fish that you like! :)

I think you should give different kinds of fish a try. I don't know the one you mention, but there are some kinds that don't smell strong at all and have different textures.
I personally just like to put some lemon juice, salt and pepper. You might want to look up online and find sauces to go with it.
    Good luck!

You are looking at this the wrong way!

Most importantly Hubby is cooking! Now if you can get him to clean up too then I say you can handle anything he puts on the plate!

I've never had mahi mahi but my son is not a fish fan either. He likes a mango chutney on talapia which is a white fish too, maybe try that. He has also been known to drown a perfectly wonderful fish with a ton of BBQ sauce! I wouldn't recommend that but it works for him.

I love fish of every variety - just can't stomach sea food! If the fish is cooked properly it won't be mushy. The age of the fish, the way it is cleaned will factor into the "fishy taste" part. Make sure you buy from a market that knows what they are doing.

Thanks for the mango chutney idea. I think I have mangoes in the fridge. And, heck yeah, he's going to clean up. You cook, you clean.

Sorry, I disagree with all those that are saying just keep trying it.

I have had some of the supposed "best" fish in the world on my travels, and guess what I don't like it. It hits the back of my throat, and I start gagging. I don't care how fresh it is, how it is prepared, blah blah, I told you I don't like it. I have given it adequate attempts, but #^&*, I'm an adult and completely capable of decifering my on preferences, trust me when I say "I DON"T LIKE FISH, AND YOU ARE NOT GOING TO CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE."
  • Well, dinner's over and I ate it. It wasn't terrible but not my favorite thing. The mangoes made it lots better.
