In all honesty, its ok to feel a little hungry from time to time. Drinking water, or doing something for a distraction often makes the feeling go away. Meaning maybe I was not actually hungry.

Boredom and thirst are two common reasons we eat. And for me personally, sometimes I look forward to a planned snack and have to stop myself from having it NOW. I seriously will have to remind myself 'I'm not hungry - I just ate an hour ago. If I have this snack NOW then I'll be hungry again at a time that won't fit my schedule.

Talking to one's self is not a sign of insanity lol.

Somebody else already posted it (thank you), but this was my approach, one that for me helped with all but the bolded one:

    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10636388/free-customized-personal-weight-loss-eating-plan-not-spam-or-mlm

And yes, do read the "most helpful posts" (a.k.a. stickies), starting with the ones in the "Getting Started" and "General Health, Fitness and Diet" parts of the community forums. There's gold in there.

To the bolded: Obviously, one needs some kind of decision or trigger to start, and it's kind of a mystery to me what makes that switch flip in someone's head, even mine. ;) But most of the process isn't about motivation, it's about committing to steadily creating/adopting new habits, then gradually incorporating that gradual improvement idea into how one goes through life permanently.

Once you run out of weight management and fitness improvements to gradually adopt, or for interludes of something different along the way, other improvements are possible (in hobby skills, professional qualifications, home and garden beauty/comfort, budgeting for big purchases and long-term security, you name it). There are a lot of common skills that go into any kind of gradual life improvement; using those skills for something like weight management only makes them stronger for the next goal.

    Best wishes!

i control hunger by eating smaller meals more frequently. otherwise perhaps a light and fit yogurt or half a quest bar between meals would work.

my other hint? don't attempt "Accelerated Alternatives". losing weight fast means losing muscle, and muscle is what burns calories. also getting weaker sucks. and learning to eat in a way you can sustain long-term is how you'll avoid putting the weight back on.

the concept of dieting also creates a scarcity mentality that means you'll always be craving tasty food or thinking about it while learning to eat differently means you can have a serving of potato chips, a scoop of ice cream or a slice of pizza every day if you want - you just weight it, log it and learn to fit it in with your calories.
