Yes it is very important. You need to stop your body from going catabolic in which that state it using your muscles as energy. So you will need a protein and a carbohydrate to help this. Protein to help rebuild those muscle fibers you just tore up while doing zumba and also a carbohydrate to refuel your muscles so that you can recover quicker.0

nothing wrong with eating late at night, thats just a myth :]0 -
So is that like those protein shakes and stuff, is it best to have it before the workout or after?0

So I do have a vegan protein powder if I just do a half a scoop in water 12 grams protein and 5 grams carb is that good enough ?
( 50 calories)0 -
I'm going to be the echo of the opinions above.0

Best to have after. Thats when you need the protein carbs most. For recovery0 -

You want a little more carbs actually. Carbs are very important for recovery. Adding a fruit would be a good choice with the vitamins, fiber, and sugar.0 -
Chocolate milk is actually a real good post workout drink. It has the perfect ratio of carbs and protein
And its not a bad thing to eat some kind of protein right before bed because it will slowly digest overnight and your body will make use of it0 -
ok I had an orange.0

I am far from an expert on nutrition but I can say that I have observed that i recover from my most intense workouts better if I have A good protien source and naturally sugary carb within 30-40 minutes after. Ive done the whole pasta thing and that doesnt seem to work for me. I have no diabetic issues so I eat fruit and Veggies. I eat some kind of bean or nut for the protien (you could do protien powders here if that works better from you but ask someone knowledgeable to help you figure out how much you should eat).
Dont forget your body just used a bunch of water after you workout even if you didnt sweat, your interal heat increased and you exhausted moisture when you were breathing- so it is vital to drink water after a work out so your body can replenish AND flush toxins that are reintroduced into your blood from your fat stores. Think of it as flushing the inside of your body clean- internally you get dirty during a workout and the water rushes in and drives that junk out.
You will notice a huge difference pretty fast.0 -
That protein is just fine! Just need a tad bit more carbs like she said. Just don't go too crazy on the fruit. Don't want to spike your blood sugar.
Also since it is at night you may need to go home and a little something too or do a whole scoop. Because you are about to not eat anything for say six hours. And this is the time when you recover and build muscle. Just be careful with the fruit again as the sugar will give you some energy.0 -
this is interesting because i have been having days where I was so so tierd and It was normally a day after I did a hour of walking plus a kettlebells class and a zumba class the day before. I was not eating after about 3 pm so maybe that was a factor. Ill keep better track and see if I see a difference I just wanted to start losing again and not eating at night at all worked well before.0

You won't lose any muscle until you've not eaten for 24/48 hours, and even then its negligible. Meal frequency IS NOT important, just overall daily intake.0 -
Keep us posted. Let me know if you have any more questions.0

I eat dinner c. 1 hour after a weeknight gym session, and have a protein bar after Saturday morning pump. But I don't eat more if I've been to the gym - if anything stimulates my appetite, it's being bored sitting around not being physically active, not going to the gym!0
