Not sure what is going on here, gained 3 lbs in 3 days. Is it possible to gain that much from starting to work out again? I finished the 30 DS a little over 2 weeks ago and took a break (my two torn rotator cuffs were begging me ). I started back sunday with the shred at 215lbs. this morning, after day 3 yesterday, 218lbs.?????????????? my diet hasnt changed, if anything I eat my exercise calories for the most part. can muscles hold that much water? Its kind of aggravating to work hard and gain weight. Any ideas?

weigh yourself once a week, for this exact reason.0

Yes it is possible to gain that much when stating to workout again. This is due to your muscles storing water to protect them from the damage caused by exercising and to aid in their recovery. Once your body gets use to the exercise your muscles will shed the water retained.0

My vote is that its water weight. Don't stress over it. You have changed up the routine and your body is probably reacting. Make sure your are getting plenty of water now that you are back to working out. Wait and weigh again in 48-72 hours and see what the scale says.0

It can be water weight/poop/muscle, etc.
I wrote a blog yesterday regarding my weight gain. It's possible. I went from 166lbs to 170lbs one day to the next but it was water retention due to TOM.

Anyways, have you pooped? We can store up to 12lbs of it in our intestines, I know gross but true!0 -
Yes, it is best to weigh yourself once a week. I weigh in once a week early in the morning on an empty stomach. This is your true weight.0

You weight can fluctuate as much as 5lbs in a single day. This is water weight... Best thing you can do, especially if you weigh everyday like I do... is get an app that does a trend line and just watch that.... Not the daily fluctuations.0

Personally I weigh myself everyday at same time/conditions, but only "look" at the trend once a week.0

Have you been eating all your exercise calories? I think you have to eat back some but not all of it because in my experience, MFP calculations of calories burned are way too much & you might overestimating your exercise and at the same time you might underestimate your calorie intake because the food database records here are not 100% accurate. Not all calories are equal, same number of calories from fresh fruits & a slice of cake won't give you the same results & even if you eat foods low in calories if its high in saturated or trans fat & sodium, there's a big chance that you will gain weight if you're not careful.0 -

I agree. I look at the trend also. At this point after getting closer to my goal, I am actually losing, in what would look like a "step" pattern. I lose three pounds and stay there for 7-10 days, then boom, 2 more lbs. gone, then hang there for another week or more, and so on. I can fluctuate up to 7lbs in a DAY. As long as the trend is downward. I'm happy.0 -
You need to weigh yourself first thing in the morning and once a week at the most! I weighed myself stupidly one day...then three days later...I had lost no weight! So I wait until another 4 days (making it a week after the first weighing) and I lost two pound.
Your weight will go up and do through the day!
In September I am weighing myself just once on the 30th Sept!!0 -
Thanks for all the input, much appreciated! to answer a few of the questions:
I weigh myself in the morning after the bathroom, i usually look at it everyday because my weight loss has been weird. Nothing for 2 weeks and then 6 lbs in 6 days. i dont freak out on fluctuations but have never gained 3 lbs back in the 6+ months i have been doing this.
I always try to leave a couple hundred calories available, especially if i exercise. I have been on medifast and its real easy to get the intake calories counted. The exercise is another story, so I default to careful.
I am leaning to water weight from starting work outs again. If they holding that much water, i must be doing something right.
Thanks again yall!0
