When did people notice?

I agree they do if they don't know what you are doing. I did have someone last month that I hadn't seen for awhile, ask if I was healthy.1 -
My Boss/Friend noticed before I did... lol. My hubby was in a wheelchair after a surgery - and I had gotten more than the normal amount of exercise over the prior few months. She asked me if I was losing weight and my response was "not on purpose." Went to the doc for my annual physical shortly after that and discovered I had lost 15 lbs. After that, I started on MFP - I decided if I could lose 15 by accident, I might be able to do a little better if I made a conscious effort.
But for the most part, people didn't notice or say anything until I was about 40 lbs down - and switch to smaller clothing. Closer fitting clothing really is more flattering on me - so I get comments when I wear them.9 -
I lost my first 50 lb so slowly that hardly anyone noticed except for my mom. When I say slowly, I mean it - about six years to lose 50 lb. I was a bit over 300 lb to begin with though so I understood it wasn't as obvious to others.
When I started using MFP, I felt like people noticed the most around 40 lb lost. After that I still got a lot of comments, but that particular point when I was just a little over 200 is when people really seemed to notice the difference. I also had several friends take me aside about my clothes being too baggy around then. I proceeded to lose more in the next year after that, but a little slower and now tend to stay around the same range. I remember when I finally went under 200 lb. for the first time in like 20 years and I was surprised no one seemed to notice then.
A few people always seem to notice (friends, mom, neighbors) while others don't as much (my husband is always super complimentary of my body but he says he cannot tell when I am up/down by 10 lb at all).

I started a new job around the same time I started losing weight, and the people who I met at this job didn't notice until I was about 50 down. I think they didn't have a chance to really get "used" to me when I was obese, even though I was at my highest weight when I first started the job.
I can relate to this a little bit too. I started my current job more than midway through my weight loss so no one knew me at the size where I'd been for years. Now, I'm roughly 40 lb lighter. My boss commented the other day (after seeing a picture from my first year there) that she could NOT believe how much smaller I am than when I started because she didn't remember me being any larger. I've told her before (in conversation) that I have lost way over 100 lb but I honestly don't think she really gets it.3 -
Interesting seeing the different comments. I know weight loss has its own rewards, but personally I would like people to notice and comment (as long as they are nice about it).
I've lost 14 lbs so far, and no comments. Not even my boyfriend who knows how much I've lost, he doesn't see the difference.
It's a bit frustrating to be fair, considering I have gotten "have you lost weight" comments in the past, when I hadn't lost any weight at all
To be fair, I'm still in the obese BMI range, time will tell when I go down in the BMI range.7 -
Today for the first time! A lady has just commented to me at the breakfast buffet ‘you’ve lost weight, haven’t you?’
It’s been a long time coming for that comment. I’m down 39.2lbs (17.8kg)! I’ve still got a long way to go (85lbs) but I’ve noticed big changes myself like my stomach going down.7 -
I am in a place where I feel like I am right on the edge of people noticing. I have lost 30 pounds and I have gone down one size in pants. My shirt size is the same, but fitting much looser. I can see my face has slimmed down and my stomach is getting smaller (that is where most of my fat sits).
The possibility of people commenting on my weight loss is actually a bit nerve wracking. I both want them to notice and don’t want them to notice. Of course I would like an acknowledgement of my success, but I feel like the attention might put added stress on me to keep progressing.
I am kind of hoping that with winter coming up, my wardrobe will keep it under wraps for a bit longer. Not that I am hiding my weight loss, but I don’t advertise it either. I just don’t want to deal with other people’s expectations and reactions.14 -
I’ve lost 20/30 lbs and it’s only now ppl have started to notice. I wear quite a bulky work uniform so it’s not easy to notice the weight loss I think. The majority of ppl have said they can notice it most from my face and tummy. I’ve got another 10 lbs to go to goal and was started to lose a bit of motivation. But I’m determined to smash my goals and get to goal weight!!4

I've only lost the first 7 lbs of my journey since starting 8 weeks ago (40lbs to lose). My mom asked how much I lost because I already looked less bloated to her. It was a good thing to hear. I know the journey takes time and results can be slow to show - but sometimes I just want those results a little quicker3

7 pounds in 8 weeks isn't slow at all! It's sustainable. (: Great job!6 -

That is not slow at all. That is a good pace.
Everyone wants it to be done a little faster at times. I have been teaching myself to embrace the time it takes. If I get to some sort of goal too quickly and I have not fundamentally changed my habits and my mindset I am at greater risk of regaining.1 -
There may be a difference between noticing, and saying something. I'm 6'0" and started at 222 lbs. The first person to say anything did so at about 15 lbs. Some people said something at 20-25. I'm down to 175, and some people just barely said something. I think people sometimes don't say something because it may be considered impolite.
This was my experience, too. Also, as a group, the people who spent the summer months away were quicker to say something.1 -
So my mother in law was the first to comment, at Christmas, saying I looked slimmer. I feel it doesn't really 'count' though, since my BF apparently had already told her about my weight loss before. So I'm still waiting for the first spontaneous remark
I'm 22 lbs down, so I hope at least a few people have noticed, even if they haven't said anything.9 -
I'm an inverted triangle shape. So, I slim down under the boobs, my sides, and my back first. (I'm barely 5'5. I think just shy of it.) Recently lost 8lbs and I've already been receiving compliments from those who see me bi-weekly that don't know I've been dieting and working out. Not to sound crude but wide shoulders and big boobs... I think it's super noticable when the eye goes to that area first. 😅1
