Error in walking?

So I went for a walk this morning with my son, I pushed him in his stroller. I drank 2 bottles of water while walking. I burned 341 calories in 45 minutes. When I finished my heart rate was at 85%, my arms mouth and legs were tingling pretty bad, and I felt like throwing up. Am I doing something wrong????

  • Is it maybe more than you're used to? Really warm? Maybe too much water in a short period of time? I recall having to drink a lot of water for ultrasounds and I would feel sick after having too much. Otherwise I can't imagine you would have done anything wrong.

Have you been walking regularly, or was this the first time with the stroller? And was it really hot?

For me, when I walk and it's really hot, I have to walk a little slower or I get overheated--which makes me sick to my stomach. Also, if you drank the water too fast, the could upset your stomach a little.

I don't think you did anything "wrong". Maybe just try walking at different times a day, not drinking water while you walk, slowing down a little at first then picking up the pace.

    Good luck!

early in the morning, like before eating anything?

If you didn't eat that was the problem. If you did, then I'm not sure.

Sounds to me like you just pushed too hard. Not sure where you are but, it's pretty hot out.

    Take care.

How fast were you walking? What was the terrain like? Are you used to walking? The heart rate sounds a bit high - did it come back into a normal range quickly?

The tingling is a symptom of poor circulation - it could be other things as well. It should improve over time as you become better conditioned. If you didn't check with a physician about the exercise before you started, it might not hurt to get yourself checked out to be on the safe side.

I'm in OK and it's pretty hot here. It was my 1st time walking and was up and down small hills. I walked as fast as I could. And I haven't ate yet :(

    1. You should try to eat something beforehand. That will make sure your body has the fuel it needs to exercise.
    2. You're in OK! You guys have been fighting Texas for who has the highest temperature all summer. You might try going earlier in the day. If it's 95+ outside and you're new to walking/exercise, that's gonna be pretty rough on your body.

So eat first and go earlier. Those would be my suggestions.
  • Sounds like a typical case of heat exhaustion. When I walk without drinking water and having breakfast I end up feeling the same way you do. Fact is your body needs fuel and if you don't give it to you there are consequences. If you let it go too long then you could end up purging.

How big were those bottles of water? You should never drink more than 32 ounces in less than an hour or you risk water intoxication. This can be exacerbated if you already have a low potassium or sodium level.

At the onset of this condition fluid outside the cells has an excessively low amount of solutes (such as sodium and other electrolytes) in comparison to that inside the cells, the fluid shifts through osmosis into the cells in order to balance its concentration. This causes the cells to swell. In the brain, this swelling increases intracranial pressure (ICP). It is this increase in pressure which leads to the first observable symptoms of water intoxication: headache, personality changes, changes in behavior, confusion, irritability, and drowsiness. These are sometimes followed by difficulty breathing during exertion, muscle weakness, twitching, or cramping, nausea, vomiting, thirst, and a dulled ability to perceive and interpret sensory information.

I agree here. I know I get really sick to my stomach if I don't eat in the morning. I'd try eating even if you aren't super hungry.

I dont drink water or anything while i walk, I will hydrate before. I also take short breaks, also I drink water after. Sometimes my hands will swell while im walking, I think its too much sodium?
