Intro:Let me introduce myself. I struggled with my weight as a teen, topping out at nearly 200. I dropped it after high school and got to a healthy weight. Every major life changed has brought weight back on - having kids, pre-menopause, menopause, family tragedy, post menopause. I've knocked it back down each time, and have been surprised that each time required a different strategy, and resulted in a different type of lifestyle change to maintain. Each time as been much harder and slower. At this point, it's moving off at a snail's pace.
Motivation. I have a hyatial hernia. It does not bother me as long as I keep the weight at 150 or below. Every female on my mother's side has had arthritic knees, and I'm starting to feel twinges. They have also sustained falls and broken bones. My husband had a major health scare a coupe of years ago. The idea of being put out of commission by a preventable injury or illness scares the bejimminies out of me.
Goals. The goals at this stage are to drop weight to a healthy range, realign my eating style to a lifestyle that will keep me healthy into my golden years, and strengthen the muscles that support my knees, ankles, and shoulders, along with my core, to prevent injury.
Dropping weight post menopausal has been so difficult, I need this to be the last time. 10-15 pounds used to be easy to drop, so that was always my warning bell to focus. Not so much now. Looks like a 3-5 pound fluctuation will be it.
A healthy weight for me is 135-140. I've always looked anorexic at 120. We'll see how things are at 135, and go from there.

Strategy: Up the hydrating foods. Fruit with breakfast. Salad/veggies as bulk of lunch. Healthy dinner. Limit/eliminate processed carbs and sugars. Zero calorie intake after 8pm. Strength exercises 3 days on/1 day rest. Regular movement through day to compensate for desk job.
R96 Challenges: I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the first time in several years. Son is truly invested in "tradition" - meaning high sugar, high carbs. I'm going to have to plan a menu that balances that with healthy. And, I'm going to have to balance "treat" with discipline for myself.

11/19 (T) 144.7 Ok. I'm in shock. No bounce? I've been on plan, so maybe I've busted through? It's been a full week since I tweaked the plan to add fruit to breakfast and a handful of spinach at lunch. And it's been a good exercise week. Only one spike - and that was a sodium bloat. So maybe ...
11/20 (W) 144.7 Still no spike. Dare I believe it?! Good day yesterday. Ate within plan. Got my strength exercises in early. Mornings are proving better for me than evenings - and possibly more effective. I've been tied to the desk this week, so my steps (and overall calories burn on Fitbit) are down. Will need to party Attention to that and start moving more.
11/21 (T) 145.3 There it is. And more of a bounce than spike Missed workout yesterday and ate later than normal, violating my no calories after 8pm. I'm working on a deadline at work - looking forward to December when things settle down to normal crazy.
11/22 (F) 145.0 Did pretty good on Thursday. Started feeling a bit "puny." Listened to my body and just rested, skipping workout.
11/23 (S) 145.6 Tough couple of days. Felt "something" coming on. Loaded up on Emergen-C and just got some rest. Scale has bounced up, but trend continues to drop. I'm feeling better today and will ease back onto plan.
Lots to do to prep for Thanksgiving. I'm off work until the week after, so I can tackle it a bit at a time. Expect activity to increase which should set me back on track. 👣
11/24 (S) 146.1 Saturday was a wash. Energy levels low. Husband cooked from cupboard, so high sodium day.
11/25 (M) 146.4 I did get back to my workout on Sunday! The day started out well enough. I think this is still bloat from Saturday's sodium.
11/26 (T) 146.2 Yesterday was much better. Started the holiday cleaning, but moved outside with the milder weather. Cleaned up the front garden and swept pine needles from the porch and front walk. Stayed on plan. Today's the shopping and the rest of the cleaning.
11/27 (W) 145.1 Crazy busy and active day yesterday getting ready for tomorrow. Stayed in plan. Actually came in low on calories 😊 Another busy day today, so activity will be up. I have plenty of healthy options for today's meals. I should be able to get to this round's starting weight by weigh in tomorrow. While I'm recovering from the spike, it was probably to late in the round to recover and hot goal, but that's ok. These daily notes are really helping me connect the dots with what works and what doesn't.
11/28 (T) 145.0 Nice! I've survived a spike and ended the round with a loss. The round starting weight was part of a whoosh that is always followed by a bump up, and I had a couple of high sodium days, so even though I didn't hit goal, I'm quite pleased. My Trend Weight is down almost a full pound, and that has me doing a happy dance.
Yesterday was another crazy busy day. I was on the go from 10am until almost 9pm. Even though I'm off my eating plan and skipping the strength training, I purposely ate very light and got in lots of activity.
I'm a bit worried about dinner today. I'll watch what I'm eating and log all of it, but I intend to enjoy having the family around.
This is the beginning of a tough time of year for many, I hope everyone is surrounded with love and light this Thanksgiving. 🦃

11/19: 159.0-Needed an active rest, did full body body stretching, wow that felt good-need to make it a habit.
11/20: 159.0-30 minutes rowing. Stretching hammies and hip flexors has done wonders for my knees, even my feet feel better.
11/21: 159.8-Always disappointing to see a bump up, but learning not to give it much credence, which is progress too.
11/22: 159.4-Some yard work and more stretching; should be able to get back to N2R next week.
11/23: 159.2-Good long walk in early a.m., but otherwise a bit of a lazy day.

Goals: stay away from sugar. Stay close to the green zone. Appreciate any loss.
11/19 134: neighbor brought freshly baked bread after dinner. So I ate some and don't regret it. But I did go up to maintenance and ate back all my exercise calories for the day. Today I better not.
11/20 133.6: added 5 mins to elliptical! I think I need to have less calories early in the day so I can eat a proper dinner, otherwise it's extremely hard to stay within my 1200 and feel sane.
11/23: 134.4 I don't know what's going on. Actually, I do know. It started with the pasta on Thursday, which was delicious. Then yesterday, I ate within reason but basically I'm eating at maintenance. Somehow I have to cut the dessert in the evening. until that point I'm fine and then I go over.
It helps to see the reminder "don't stay away. It's a journey, and we're not here to judge but to support", so I'm just repeating it if someone else feels like me this morning.
Today I will take it for today.
11/24: 134.4 friends over for dinner and I felt pressured to have dessert. The good news is that I took a glass of wine and had maybe 1 oz but nobody noticed.
11/25: 133.2 was really careful the last two days. Yesterday i was at a friend's for lunch and asked to serve myself instead of her serving me, so loaded up on the veggies and salad rather than the carbs. And ate only half the dessert. The big victory was having toast for dinner instead of what I cooked for the family because that would have been very high calorie meal. That helped me stay in the green. Let me try and do this again today.
11/26: 134.6 I didn't do it again. I ate a lot of cheese for dinner. That was silly.
11/27: 134.4 stayed very close to green. My husband says "what goes up must come down" so I'm listening to this 😆 I didn't exercise because of the schedule. I could have worked it in but felt bored. I probably would not have been bored if I just went! Today I have my meals planned and will be cooking this evening in prep for tomorrow.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day and I went for I lovely walk along one of our three rivers. It was inspiring. And I’m happy to be starting a new round — I’m finally feeling focused and determined to stick to the healthier me plan. I over ate last night — ugh. Today I have to bake a loaf of bread for bread communion tomorrow, but I won’t sample! I don’t know why I can’t seem to get a grip on my snacking, even though I’m thoroughly disgusted with the weight I’ve gained back. Monday I see my integrative medicine doctor and I’ve decided I won’t let the nurse weigh me. Depressing enough to see my nekkid number at home before breakfast —I’m not getting on a scale fully clothed after eating! Have a good weekend, all.

Bread baked — cherry quick bread with dried cherries and pecans. Sliced it this morning but I did not sample - yay me! I’m going to try not to sample more than one or two of the offerings this morning. And @quiltingjaine, yeah, I expect an argument from the nurse, esp. if I get the cranky one, but I’m determined. I know I’ve gained. I don’t need an overweight nurse and overweight doctor lecturing me about it!

Ok, so I did sample all the breads yesterday. The whole shebang didn’t add up to more than a slice or a little more, and I ate responsibly the rest of the day.

But I think my scale is off because I did step on the dr’s scale yesterday, after a big breakfast and fully clothed including shows, and it read 175. One of them is obviously off. Anyway, it’s fine for now. My bloodwork is all spot on, bp 118/76, and I feel great. I’m not going to bend myself out of shape about the weight and focus instead on eating whole, unprocessed foods and cutting back on snacks. I’m reading Michael Pollen’s In Defense of Food (Yes, I’m 10 years behind) and it’s an interesting read, especially re. macros and other individual nutrients. Anyone else read it?

11/23--206.7 Yesterday I started to feel like I was coming down with a cold, so I didn't workout yesterday. Instead, yesterday evening, I decided it would be better to do a lot of snacking, so today the weight is up and my stomach isn't feeling that great. My plan today had been to go out for a run and take the dog out for a long walk, but since I am still feeling under the weather I will be staying at home and drinking a lot of liquids. Hopefully the rest will keep me from getting a full blown cold.
11/24--207.6 Feeling a little better, but throat is still scratchy so no workout with my strength coach today. If the weather holds up I want to go out for at least a little walk, I feel weird not doing much over the last 24 hours. Another day of rest for me.

11/19 122.5 Gym day today. My Art Quilt group has it annual holiday potluck tomorrow and I have no idea what to take. Last year there were too many desserts and no LCHF entrees.
⭐️On this date last year, weighed 131.0, I watched what I ate and how much during multiple potlucks, 3 holidays (Thanksgiving and 2 Christmases with family) and other random celebrations. I did hit 133.0 a couple of times but was at 133.5 on/ New Year’s morning. I had determined that I did not want to go back where I had been and was mindful. You can do it!
11/20 123.5 Heavy workout day at the gym yesterday. I know I’m getting stronger, I just wish I felt I was. I made Keto white chicken chili for today’s potluck.
11/21 122.0 My potluck dish was a hit!
11/22 121.0 DH woke up sick yesterday. I spent most of the day reading a book a friend loaned me. When we went out to get his meds, I got 2 grande lattes with heavy cream at that famous coffee place (it was happy hour day) and that was how I broke my almost 22 hour fast. I continued to “enjoy” (not so much) that coffee for the rest of the day. UGH! Hardly ate any supper. Feeling much better today. Fasting until dinner. (It’s in print so now I have to, right?)
11/23 121.0 I didn’t fast as long as I intended but I’m a work in progress. At 8PM I realized I hadn’t had any water all day - just coffee so I drank about a quart and a half before I went to bed at 11:20. 2 bathroom trips during the night. Note to self - drink water not coffee! I need to get to the gym today for sure, haven’t been since Tuesday!

11/26 122.5 Dinner out with friends. I ate sweet potato fries - not all of them but enough! It’s okay, they were worth it. I didn’t sleep worth a darn last night. I was hot, cold, hot, cold. We had turned the heat up because of DH’s cold and didn’t turn it down at bedtime.
11/27 121.0 I have been fasting since Monday at about 5:15pm. What’s amazing to me is that I’m not ravenous! I have had water coffee, coconut oil, and cream only. I will eat sometime today.
11/28 121.0 My fast ended after 43.5 hours. I felt awesome the whole time. I will probably do this again next week.

11/19 273.4 A nice loss for the start of the round.
11/20 273.0 I took my rest day a day early because I was experiencing some muscle fatigue. I seem to be doing better this morning so I’m hopeful that I just needed a little rest and that it’s not a flare starting.
11/21 271.6 I checked this weight six times, two of those was after walking the dogs. I have no idea where it came from, but I’ll take it.
11/22 271.4 Any loss is a good loss, I’m just happy that it wasn’t a false low yesterday and that I didn’t bounce from a high sodium dinner last night. I tried a ranch dressing that’s made with Greek yogurt and it was pretty good. My only complaint is that it comes out in clumps.
11/23 270.6 I took a rest from walking yesterday, it really showed me how inactive I am if I don’t take my walks throughout the day. This morning I’m back to my usual routine and my 20 minute walk passed by in the blink of an eye, so I went for another 10 minutes. My husband and I are going out for lunch today and hopefully I can stay on track. I might consider talking him out of it because I really want to get down some more before my maintenance break next month.
11/24 270.4 I didn’t end up going out to lunch with the husband. My mil had a failure to plan that meant we suddenly had an emergency to do deal with. Don’t worry it was just that she needed someone to take her to do her laundry and nothing truly serious. My husband and her got breakfast out so he had the eating out bug out of his system by the time he got home.
11/25 271.4 Water retention from either my sore back or it being close to ovulation time. I had a new step high at a bit over 11k yesterday plus I spent time on my exercise bike. I’m going to rest today as I can to see if I can get my back to let up, but I do have a shopping trip planned for later.
11/26 270.4 And as mysteriously as it appeared the gain is gone. I happily got my back to let up with a lot of tlc in the morning and by the afternoon I was good to go and ended the day with 11k in steps again. I’m not looking forward to it being colder over the next few days because the nice weather makes me want to get out and walk.
11/27 270.2 Hopefully this is the start of a downward trend again. I’m taking an easier day today in hopes of letting up some of the achiness and water retention.
11/28 270.4 My body likes this weight it seems. It’s okay though I still lost a bit this round and I’m not worried. It’s around when I ovulate, which causes a stall and I’ve been more active, which causes water retention. As for today I have a plan in place and if I stick to it I will be just a little under my normal calorie deficit, but still have had all the foods I really want today. Here’s hoping that the extra pies we have do not tempt me away from my plan.

11/19: 215.6 (-1.6)/18.0 (-0.2). I'm still feeling stressed, but this weigh-in feels closer to where I actually am. I have officially gone from barely fitting into my XL shirts to fitting comfortably in most of my L shirts. Gotta love the NSVs; . I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to hit the gym, but I'm excited get back at it (haven't been since Friday).
11/20: 216.0 (+0.4)/18.1 (+0.1). I met with an old friend for dinner last night. I kept things under control, but it was definitely "off-plan." I am planning on going to the gym tonight, with or without my wife. She just texted me to let me know that she is going to the dentist after work, so it's ME ALONE AGAINST THE GYM!!!
11/21: 217.2 (+1.2)/18.2 (+0.1). It was too cold last night for me to go to the gym on my motorcycle. And my wife brought home food from one of my favorite places. I ate half, and took the other half for lunch today, but it seems obvious that it has affected my weigh-in. Stress at work has got in the way of my going to the gym as much as I would like, and that (I think) has limited my progress in the last week. I'm not beating myself up, though. At this moment, as I think about my circumstances, I am pretty happy to be "where I'm at." My stress will pass, and I will get back into my routine. Even as I have been slacking, I have still never gone less than once per week to the gym. I'm just talking out loud.
11/22: 217.2 (0.0)/18.2 (0.0). @tiabirdie56 I AM ready to get back into the gym! It's "gym or bust" tonight, and, despite next week being Thanksgiving, I'm going to get back into my good habits RIGHT NOW. Skipping the gym is one of those warning signs that sometimes (often) leads me off-track. So is stress. I still feel like I'm "okay," but it's time to "right the ship." I already have my "relatively healthy" reward dinner all planned out. Today will be a good day, and next week is a two-day work-week, so I have even more to look forward to! I also just looked up and realized I'm at my SW for the round. Things could be so much worse...
11/23: 216.4 (-0.8)/18.1 (-0.1). I hit the gym last night with my wife. Because I have not been as consistent over the past two weeks, I took it a little easy (didn't try to hit any "max" weights). I ate well during the day, and overall it was a pretty good day. Tonight my wife and I are celebrating 8 years of marriage (actual date was 11/19), and we have been together for 16 years. No matter how messed up life can be, I know that I have the "love" department covered. I forget sometimes how lucky I am, but it's always there if I just let my mind get quiet. We'll be going out, and I'll try to figure out a way to stay on track (even if I eat ribs, or a steak). I'll definitely be eating light for breakfast and lunch in anticipation. No alcohol. If I have a dessert/sweet, it will be 400 calories or less. I will also be at the gym tomorrow morning, no matter what.
11/24: 217.8 (+1.4)/18.2 (+0.1). Didn't post this day. I made it to the gym, but my wife and I had two sets of visitors to the house that I did not plan for, and I lost myself a little bit food-/drink-wise.
11/25: 217.2 (-0.6)/ 18.2 (0.0). I had the day off from work, and my neck and shoulder were hurting again. I find upper-body pain (especially when I know it's back-related) really demotivating. I was pretty much in bed all day.
11/26: 218.0 (+0.8)/18.3 (+0.1). I had a long weekend, things got a little squirrelly, and I really need to get back on track. Still, this could be much worse. I'll be going to the gym with my wife tomorrow. I'm already trying to prepare myself for Thanksgiving. I miss basketball. No matter what, I will NOT let myself hit 220 again. Ever.
11/27: 218.4 (+0.4)/18.3 (0.0). I haven't been tracking my food for a while; I got to the point that I "thought" I was doing a good job of keeping track in my head (which I probably was... but things have been slipping lately). While I always knew this was not the best idea in the world, I am officially going back to tracking everything on a daily basis. I need to right this ship ASAP. I'm still "okay." Thanksgiving will be a day of self-reflection and self-control. Truth be told, I actually don't really like Thanksgiving dinner, so I think my goal is doable. Gym tonight, with or without my wife.
11/28: 216.2 (-2.2)/18.1 (-0.2). First of all, HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!! I am incredibly thankful for this group, which is here even when I'm not. I always know I have a place to come back to, even if I wander off the path for a bit. Thanks to any and all of you who check in with me occasionally, but thanks even if you don't. The love and energy in this group is something I have never found anywhere else (including friends/family/spouse), and it's healing. I love every single one of you, whether you're struggling at the moment or experiencing incredible success. This life is a marathon, and you all are my teammates, my sponsors, and my friends. This felt a bit like an "off" round for me, but this is why I do the "numbers" below. I did not have any huge lapses, even if it felt like I struggled at times.
