How much is 100g

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone knew exactly how much 100g was? Say like if you are eating Greek Yogurt (which I do love) is this equal to say two heaping tablespoons? I am just wondering because often I combine foods in the same bowl like cottage cheese, bananas and yogurt.

Chris

I second getting a food scale. A small container of Fage Greek yogurt, the individual size, is 170 grams. It’s hard to eyeball these things. You need a digital scale for accuracy.

Use a digital scale. Plop your bowl on it and tare it out. Put in your yogurt--100g tare it out, but keep your bowl there. Put in your banana, check the weight tare it out. Put in your cottage cheese, check the weight tare it out. Then log your food in. Exact.

this! also works for cooking when you are combining a bunch of ingredients

100g looks vastly different depending on the weight of whatever you're measuring (e.g., greek yogurt vs lettuce).

    Put bowl on scale.
    Tare.
    Add ingredient 1.
    Log food weight.
    Tare.
    Repeat with each remaining ingredient.

    Hi Chris,

Your container of Greek yogurt probably says that 226 g is 1 C, so 113 g would be a half cup, so 100 g could be around 2 heaping tablespoons, depending on how high you heap them. I know I can get a LOT of peanut butter on a tablespoon. But there are 8 level T in a half cup, so you are likely cheating yourself with your 2 heaping T.

But really, it's far easier to get a food scale.

Meanwhile, using a level half cup measuring cup for 113 g would be more accurate than heaping tablespoons.
