Body functions weird

So I got back on the weight loss grind and consistently did exercise daily (runs, core exercises etc), for about 3 days continuously, but instead of losing even a tiny bit of weight, i was gaining! And my friends told me i looked fatter than before, but i was sticking to my calorie intake just as i used to. But to my surprise, when I consumed over my calories and didn’t exercise, I lost weight. Can anyone explain?

You can't make observations off of a few days. Weight loss is not a linear process. You need really at least a month of data to make proper observations.
Your body retains and gets rid of water for different reasons. Starting an exercise routine can cause you to retain a bit of water. So sometimes its normal to see the scale jump for a bit. That is why you need to focus on the long term, not the short term.
You can't make visible changes either way in 3 days. Your friends were just being rude.14 -
... but seriously - water weight gain from three days of exercise most likely.8 -
