Had a binge day Argh!!

I don't know why but it came on last night before bed and I couldn't/didn't stop myself. It's as if my body went on automatic and I had no control. I think part of it might be because the scale seems to be bouncing around the same numbers for the past few weeks and it's getting disheartening/boring/discouraging. Maybe it's because we have vanilla ice cream in the house and I shouldn't have taken that 1st small scoop. Maybe because it's winter, dark, cold, long, or maybe because it was a Monday. Who knows. But it happened. It's(HOPEFULLY)done with and I'll be back to it today. Wish me luck.
Must do better at self-control!!!

I hope you enjoyed your ice cream to the very last lick! This--seriously. If you pile on the guilt you'll binge again. Sometimes you just have to let go, enjoy, and then get back to it refreshed. Check and see if you're restricting your calorie intake too much. It can lead to uncontrollable binging.12

Kind of the same for me. I miscalculated a meal and realized I was over my calories but I was still very hungry, which made me a bit annoyed, so I ate a few more things and went over by another 300-400, so not a total binge, but didn't stay under my goal for the day. Also just annoyed that my houseguests ate some of my food like the spinach that I put on my wraps. I think they thought it was theirs, but still- that's something I eat to make myself feel fuller with almost no calories. Back on it today. I find that I can't let myself get too hungry otherwise I will binge. Eating a banana before working out helps, and not working out for too long also helps. First day of the week it's okay to go over by a bit and still be okay.1

This is a lifetime thing not a short term. Relax. Drink a glass of water
Now aim for your mfp calories today.
But remember indulging and enjoying the indulgence but not making it an every day thing is the key.
Good luck and go you6 -
I used to have them too - finally realized if I make small adjustments on my daily macros I don't feel like binge - ing any longer. Seems to me that the body is craving something...1

the key is, get back on the horse and keep riding. you have the tools now and you know you can start fresh today and strive for better. Don't be hard on yourself. this journey isn't easy but it's worth it.2

There was icecream in the house. You were hungry, you were feeling down and disheartened, it was dark and cold and all the work you were doing to lose weight didn't feel like it was paying off, and I'll BET that icecream was DELICIOUS.
Now, I just did a wee google and I'm figuring a tub of icecream is around a thousand or so calories, right? Which means that if you're usually at a 500calorie deficit, then you're now just 500 over deficit EVEN IF YOU ATE THE WHOLE TUB.
Which in the grand scheme of things puts you.. one single day behind where you were.
One day. That's all. One tiny little measly day. One tiny little measly day and- well, where I am it's almost midday so you're almost halfway through that day already!
And y'know the thing about self control? It's OVERRATED.
If there was an entire tub of delicious, sweet, cold icecream just sitting in my freezer? You bet yer *kitten* I'd eat it and I'd enjoy every single spoon of it and I'd lick the last bits of it off the lid.
If you know that you can't resist the siren call of the scoop? Next time you're in the supermarket walk STRAIGHT past that icecream aisle.
Or even better: walk TO the icecream aisle and buy yourself a small tub of it, and add that tub to your food plan for a night when you know you'll have had a tough day. Do it for next week!
And next Monday night, when you've had a long, dark, cold day? You get home and after your dinner you sit down and you eat every single delicious spoonful of that tub, HAPPY in the knowledge that you've budgeted for it. And you enjoy every single bit of it and you can even lick the lid clean!11 -
I agree - don't feel guilty! (No-one died and it is just a single blip in your overall progress.)
It is good to look back (with compassion for yourself) at why it happened and to consider if you need to make adjustments so that you are not always relying on the grim-grip of will-power. There is a limit to how long you can 'hang on' to anything.
It is better to arrange things so that you feel comfortable with what you are doing. You might need other distractions from food or other ways of feeling better when (not if) there are occasions when life gets tough. This will be a personal thing.
Well done so far - good luck as you carry on today.6 -
BeGrandLike, I only bought it because my dh requested ice cream and peanuts when I went grocery shopping. As much as I'd love to blame him(oh if only...)it's up to me to be able to Just Say NO. And if I'd stuck to that bowl of ice cream I wouldn't have woken up filled with angst this a.m. But no, once my brain allowed me to eat the ice cream, it also talked me into seeing what else I could find in the kitchen to wolf down. I've always been a binge-er and have to fight hard to keep that in check. So I can blame my brain. Or maybe it started during the afternoon when I pulled the lovely smelling aromatic turkey out of the oven and started nibbling. Oh it was so yummy!! So I can blame the turkey, right? And turkey=husband so now I know where the blame truly lies.
And I DO need other distractions in my life when the old binge monster rears it's ugly head. But why oh why does the brain speak to me so much louder at times.6 -
@ReenieHJ I know exactly what you are talking about. This is absolutely what I do. It isn't one thing.... it is uncontrollable and I eat everything in sight. It doesn't even matter if it is something I really crave. I will eat and eat and eat. Sure it is okay once in a while but I do it every single week - and we're not talking 1000 calories extra. I'm probably looking at a whole 3500 - or literally erasing my entire week's progress. There is some advice above re. macros...... maybe this is something to look at seriously. It may work!?

That sounds so hard to handle, and I'm sorry that my comment made light of it. I'm not going to pretend to have advice on this one, since it's clearly outside my own experience. But I will say just that that DOES seem like an incredibly difficult urge to fight. And I wish you the very best in learning how to handle it, and really hope this gets better for you.1

Been at this for over 5 years and had more than one of these. No big deal. Be mindful and think about what put you in this situation. Personally I can demolish a bag of chips in no time, so I'm cautious around these. I limit the opportunity to sit and eat. So I read instead of watching TV/internet. I drink 16 oz water 30 mins before eating so I feel fuller faster. I also limit my calories during the day so that I have a large window of protection later in the evening when my life isn't as structured.
One night doesn't outdo a week of diligence.

Log it, learn from it, come up with a plan, forget about it2

Please don't apologize for making light of it! We need to keep a sense of humor, if we can't laugh at ourselves, how will anybody else laugh at us? I enjoy reading your posts just because you do inject humor in there.
And so far today, my day has gone much better, I've held onto my self control, exercised and everything. I feel almost normal again.4
